Rensif

Rensif stands as the only Nation in Olivaan that is not a member of the Olivaan Union. They took no issue with this and allied themselves closely with all members of the Union up until the last few years. Their most recent King had been running a very successful campaign to give refuge to Dustless (those incapable of manipulating Dust). While the Olivaan Union did not turn away Dustless refugees from places like Orix, they did not implement any means of assissting them. Rensif however actively gave them a place within their Nation. It's believed that due to this support of the Dustless, that an extremist faction from Fahlis captured and killed the king.

His Sister took power shortly after under a banner of change. She believes that becoming a member of the Olivaan Union is the best way for them to spread wide change across the Union and Miramai. Fahlis being what stands between Rensif and the border of the Union, they became the obvious target. La'Collet's addition to the Union proved to the world that the Union will be forced to include them once they expand out to the border.

Though Timoria's land would likely be easier to take in one swoop, their long trade agreement has persisted even while Rensif wages war with Fahlis.

Geography

Rensif's geography is varied and they benefit wildly from it. They have a large coast line, a Tower, a large freshwater lake, a small mountain range, rain forest, and grasslands.  Their beaches surrounding the Tower even provide enough Dust infused sand to create their own Dust Vessels.

Government

Rensif is a Democratic Monarchy. A ruler is chosen in an election and serve until their death or chosen retirement. Though citizens are able to overthrow a ruler through a voting process, it has not been done in centuries. The latest Queen was preceded by her Brother. She was not given the crown however, upon his untimely death. Her brother was beloved by the people, hard working and generous of both time and wealth. He was a hero in every sense of the word to his people. However when he was killed by an Extremist group from Fahlis who believe that Dustless are meant to be culled from Miramai. His sister stood up, she ran a platform for Queen begrudgingly. She never wished to be in the spotlight, but she could not let her brother's legacy die with him. She spoke of freedom, equality, and belief all should have it. Not just those of Rensif. She pointed to the Olivaan Union's inaction for the reason Dustless are enslaved across the ocean. That they chose to do nothing in response to the assassination of her brother. That members of the very group that killed their King now stood beside the King of Fahlis.

The vote came back with an astounding 85% in favor. The border guards of Fahlis claim that they could hear the songs sung at her corenation in Cintri. Echoing across the land as the people sang in unison. Their songs barely veiled threats of vengence .

Society and Culture

Rensif stands under a banner of a single feather. It's people speak their oath regularly, "A single feather does not fly." Under this motto, citizens of Rensif believe that standing with the group is ultimately neccessary. Their stories and fables often have lessons of not gripping a belief too tightly. Encouraging their people to listen carefully and make educated decisions... however if action is needed, follow the flock.

Within Rensif at this time are 6 houses. Though lineage is a strong bond for many of these houses, leadership within is not bound by blood. Each of these houses is represented by a bird. Generally, when a new Monarch needs chosen, each house will put up a single representative. It is not uncommon however for a house to recognize that they have no candidate as capable as another's. In these cases they will rally support for the perceived superior candidate. In the case of the last election. only one other house put up a representative.

The current houses of Rensif are:

  • 'Peacock'
  • 'Quetzal'
  • 'Golden Pheasant'
  • 'Kingfisher'
  • 'Secretary Bird'
  • 'Hoopoe'

Much like a political party, citizens of Rensif will generally side with a specific houses decision making. One can even apply to become an official member of the house, gaining the ability to rise in its ranks and the various benefits of being under the wing of a House of Rensif.

Economy

Rensif is capable of being fully self sufficient should they choose, However they enjoy the benefits of a strong trade partnership with both Timoria and Zelor. Often times even acting simply as a middle man in trades between the two. Since Rensif is outside of the Union, they are not required to pay Union taxes. Timorian and Zelor traders will take the longer route through Rensif to one another in Order to pay the much lesser fee's to cross their borders. Especially since Fahlis has taken to comendering shipments through their borders.

Rensif also of course has great trade relations with Ehriil as it passes by their region. Because of their support of Dustless refugees as well, they are often brought technology from the Nations across the Oceans. Frequently smuggled with Ehriil traders. Because of this they are the second most technologically advanced Nation on Olivaan. Second only to Idiir.

Military

Rensif military is entirely voluntary, however it is seen as a grand honor to join. Each of the houses maintain their own personal military that support fully any campaign the Monarch commands. Each house handles their units training on their own. Leading to specialized units that focus on the houses personal strengths.

There are two factions that are outside of the 6 families however. These factions serve crown and country only. They are the Cardinals, and the Corvids.

The Cardinals instill hope in all citizens and soldiers of Rensif upon sight. Though their numbers are relatively small in comparison to any of the House factions. A single Cardinal banner amongst a legion of soldiers is often seen as doubling the capability of that legion. Cardinal's always possess some means of healing their allies. Most are capable front line fighters as well. Their uniforms are comprised of black armor and red cloth. Their presence can often give the impression of leadership, however they will be the first to tell you that they are merely support. Enemy units have occasionally returned home unharmed with stories of Cardinals who protected them at the end of a battle, once it was clear Rensif was victorious. Only to heal their wounds, feed them, and send them home with any equipment they needed for safe travel. Even going so far as to personally escort them to the border.

The Corvids are Rensif's most capable faction. As a single Cardinal is believed to boost the capability of a legion, a single Corvid is feared more than a legion of any houses soldiers. Their ranks are nearly myth. They will sometimes appear in a military encampment without a word. No word from superiors, they will not address commanders. They will simply quietly setup their camp amongst the other soldiers. When a battle commences, they will often be seen looming somewhere with a view of the battlefield. Reports vary wildly on what will trigger their involvement. Though once they decide to enter the fray, they move through the battle as though a field of wheat. Sometimes cutting down countless enemy soldiers themselves. Sometimes merely avoiding the blades of the enemy until reaching a single specific target. Sometimes that target is from a Rensif faction.

These are just the confirmed reports of a Corvid. Though stories are told of black feathers being left at the scene of a crimes all over Olivaan. Even within Rensif's borders.

Allies & Enemies

Rensif is actively in a war with Fahlis in Order to expand their border to reach the Olivaan Union border. Though they see the Union as an enemy of sorts due to inaction, they seek membership rather than war with the Union itself. They actively maintain good relations with Timoria and Zelor through trade primarily. The other Union Nations have stayed relatively neutral in the conflict.

They also have a mutual hatred for Orix due to their treatment of Dustless. They harbor many refugees and stolen Orix technology. Though this conflict has not turn to full out war, it has not stopped each Nation from tactical strikes and espionage from time to time.
