Nabora
Demographics
Nabora is densely packed - and one of the many cities in Prismer who's population is mostly made up of people from the Hunt for the Sea Crown who decided to stay. While many had skills outside of being a sellsword, many were left aimless and made Nabora their place to find something proper to aim at.
Notable is that this is one of the last places you will find Paydama walking among mortals as you head southbound into The Great Constellation.
Industry & Trade
Nabora is a city defined by its trade - as one of the most common stops on the Cirrian line, the city is dictated by the comings and goings of the rest of the world . No matter your profession or class - you're either on the shipyard or working to support it.
An understated industry within the city is hospitality - streetfood vendors and tavernkeeps fill the bellies of longshoremen and give travelling sailors steady ground to sleep on, all while pointing weary travellers to the best who's where of Nabora proper, providing bulletins for odd jobs and cries for help.
Beyond that, much of Nabora is administrative - guild hall charters, university researchers, permissions officers, all the ugly management work needed to keep a civilization running can be found burning the midnight oil and smoking enough herbs to qualify them as an apothecary.
Infrastructure
Nabora , limited in its space and dense in it's population, grows just as far up as it does out, neighborhoods being built on each other in layers called altas . As building is decided by district - some districts build much higher up than others, creating a unique skyline that rises and falls much like a volcano or mountain would against the horizon.
Almost every block of housing has a public courtyard surrounded by each of the residencies so that those living in those homes have outdoor space to utilize. Blocks with many altas will even build platforms and hanging gardens from within to better support those living on higher floors.
Zoning is mixed, seeing businesses built on residences built on public services - all fanning out of the myriad public bazaars and community areas doted across the city.
Guilds and Factions
Most professions in Prismer had a guild chapter here in Nabora, the most notable of which being the International Seafarer's Union. Other prominent guilds in the city's council include, but are not limited to ;
- The Greater Prismer Dye-Makers Guild
- Cirrian Way Tradesmen's Association (centered in Alta Riano)
- The Textile-Weaver's Guild
- The United Prismer Pharmacy
Other groups with notable sway in the city include the Temple and those working under the Ponfice, the Crown itself, the University of Allahari , and other foreign guilds trying to stake a claim in the wider Nabora market. Wars of diplomacy are done for control over the streets of Nabora, the eyes of its citizens, and real estate on the ships coming in and out. What separates the Crown and Temple from the Guilds is the nature of their influence. Any shaked hands between the Guilds is done far away from the Crown and Temple, and vice versa. It'd be a true fight between private and public sector if the Guilds weren't busy cutting each other.
Points of interest
When visiting Prismer, there are a handful of must-sees.
- Temple Prima of Illia - the center of Illiasm in Prismer and across the world and the home of the Deity Prima Cetlios and The Pontifice of Illiasm , many of the faith travel from across the world to feel the breeze flow through its halls
- Nanban Bazaar - A massive and constantly-changing open air market, the world of Memdia unfurls under its colorful tents and cramped passages as a never ending roulette wheel of merchants and traders come to find fame and fortune - and an equally unceasing crowd comes to pick over the piles for the best deal.
- Allahari Lagoon - Often the first thing people do see in Nabora, the large, surprisingly deep lagoon sees dozens to hundreds of boats dock in its shipyard and just as many leaving every day. A shocking deep blue that seems to so down forever, those who dare to dive can see a vibrant coral reef shine at depths impossible to see from the naked eye.
Geography
A mostly sea-level island of considerable size and decent foundation, almost crescent-shaped with the mouth of the Allahari Lagoon facing west towards the continent. Its full of sandy beaches that sparkle with crushed mica interlaced in the clear white grains that give Prismerese glassblowing its signature holographic sheen. On the two ends of the Lagoon, larger than life statues of Allahari frame the entrance to the island- visible from a day's travel out and welcoming any who seeks to enter - while also functioning as lighthouses.
Climate
Humid with ocean breezes all year round, seasons are less so determined by changes in temperature and moreso how much its raining. Signature to Nabora and its surrounding islands is daily summer thunderstorms that pour out like monsoons for about 20 minutes a day before disappearing as quick as it came. These rolling storms are often called "Selwyn's Coughs", or more crass things.
