The Tin Mines

A long time ago, rich Tin deposits were discovered within the mountain range, although not many people were too keen on digging through the hard granite rock in order to extract it. That is, until the determined dwarven race came into the equation. The dwarves were the ones to expand this originally-human and rather small city, and due to the lack of cities within the area, it quickly grew in size to the outstanding size of a 100 thousand people.   The initial success of the city would not last long, however. Due to Tin being far from valuable, the city was far from rich. After the city of Golden Valley was founded, many people started leaving Tinvein in hopes of finding a better future in this new city. The elder did not try to stop them, for he understood the dreams and desired each dwarf has, and as such, the city’s population has been steadily declining, more than halving its population since Golden Valley was founded.   What didn’t help was the depletion of one of the silver mines on the other side of the river, convincing some people that the Tin deposits were running out.

The Eastern Raiders

Besides its dwelling population, the largest issue that has been facing Tinvein are the raiders. Despite its position deep within the highlands, raiders still sometimes manage to get through and attempt to raid the city. This issue has been much less prevalent after the foundation of Golden Valley, as they are a much closer and much richer target, but the occasional raids still occur, yet the Tinvein military is strong enough to drive them away. Usually.
A notable battle that not only brought up the legacy of The Silver Knight, but also decided the fate of the city was the Battle of the Granite Bridge, which ended with Tinvein's victory thanks to the reinforcements from the Golden Valley.

The Tinvenian School of Magic

After the Battle of the Granite Bridge, it was clear to the Elder that with the artisans leaving to work in either the Golden Valley or Hul-Vazhatun, it was not possible to maintain the strength that the city once possessed, and a different approach was needed if it wanted the capability of defending itself against foreign threats. As such, Tinvein became one of the first dwarven cities to abandon it's School of Artificery and in 105BG, it opened a School of Magic, a decision that many would consider foolish and would oppose, yet with most of the artisans gone, there weren't any to oppose this decision. And as such, dwarven magicians from across the mountains began flooding in, finally having a city where they're looked up to, instead of down upon.

Despite the large tin deposits present, it is rather hard to lure in any dwarves. Tin is not the most valuable of materials. Whilst it is used when creating bronze and pewter, it's only other real uses are kitchenware and maybe some bells. As such, many who spend their life in Tinvein leave eventually, usually to the riches that the Golden Valley promises
