The Dark One

(The contents of this page are NOT common knowledge)
"To invite me here to talk is simply nonsense on all of your parts, however I will concede that this occasion marks my interest. I am only curious of the nature of this entity, though I shall continue to ignore the happenings of you lot and the mortals."
— The Dark One, First Meeting of the Mortal Gods

Preamble

The Dark One is the deity seeing over the dominions of Magic, Weakness, and Deceit, who focuses on the sight of the strong toppling to the weak and enjoys taking on a much nastier role. The Dark One rarely gets involved in the affairs of mortals, instead acting through certain followers who have proven their devotion to the deity known as Witches while stealing the life of others. Seeing over the sphere of weakness the Dark One favours, those who are already weak in body, heart and mind. She enjoys those who plead with the world to answer their prayers. She sees the ability to take advantage of conflict as a true test of character. Knowing this it is no surprise that her followers are often shunned and hated. She has a strong distaste for those who live already exist fulfilling lives. She despises The Divine Son and The Pure Soul. She finds The Allfather to be agreeable from time to time as he has dominion over the Hunt and War and cares little for the going ons of The Muse. They rarely find themselves aligned with The One Eyed Prophet but it does occur. The only true ally they have is The Tyrant.

Sphere Of Influence

Influence

Those who are favored by The Dark One are those who have fallen on dark times, schemers, and those seeking to destroy the strong. She cherishes deceit and magic and those who strive to bring those into the world will always catch her attention. She commands her followers to do their best to enact their own desires while feeding her strength. In times of war they can often be found taking advantage of the chaos to reach some end. Her followers can be found in combat occasionally as harming or killing another creature is needed in certain rites or sacrifices, though she prefers their deaths to be the result of trickery. Many of her followers take no vow save for loyalty to her. In times of peace, her followers can often be found doing the same things as they do in war.

Dominion

The Dark One is not opposed to lending a hand to those who seek to serve her, preferring to instead act through those she has gifted instead of interfering in the matters directly. She desires her followers to rely on her in order to take their life from them. However, failure is not immediately met with punishment or rage, she simply spins words of disappointment to manipulate those who fail her to further take from them. Those who show particular devotion are bestowed with the above mentioned gifts, using them to aid them in their search of vengeance or power.

Artifacts

Glubokiy is not known to craft items, though occasionally he will hand out a walking stick to a follower he crosses paths with. These walking sticks, although nonmagical, never rot, and make a quite pleasing click when rapped on the ground, being an ideal tool to tap Glubokiy's devotion song on the stone.

Mortal Facets

Morgaine

One of the Dark One’s more well-known servants on Gaia. A human woman who would go on to use one of the Sacred Sacraments for the first time in history. She is often seen as an icon for what it means to be a witch and worship the Dark One.

Three-Eyed Rat

This odd creature is very similar to a rat one might find running through the sewers of a Gravican Villa; Its fur is dark gray in color and its eyes are a bright, everpresent ruby. The key defining feature of this rat is the third eye it has emplaced on the center of its forehead. The being's presence is always mysterious and can never be guaranteed; But, whenever it appears what comes next is never good for non-Verivan. Usually a plague, prophecy or a new discovery in Breaker technology is what follows the three-eyed rat's appearance.

Powers

Three-Eyed Rat is known to possess varied magics, though it is not known to help anyone but Verivan, except on the rare occasion of the rare cult.

Glubokiy

Glubokiy is the deific progenitor of the Deep Drachev, though he did not spawn the Deep Drachev out of love, but rather out of curiosity, more or less by accident, much like how he ended up in the Underdeep to begin with. Curiosity almost defines Glubokiy, a sharp contrast with his people, who have grown significantly more paranoid than their progenitor in the meantime.

The Bewitched Cravens

It was at the stroke of the first midnight upon Gaia that the Dark One sought to grant those who sought salvation or power with her blessings, tapping the fingers of her many hands together and power upon the countless souls occupying the mortal realm. Some mortals, such as Morgaine, looked upon this divine being in reverence and earned her blessings. In this, they were tasked with spreading the faith and utilizing her power for their personal goals.   Certain followers of the goddess can be blessed with the ability to create poison and bogs. Though these Witches, as they came to be known, were not direct fighters or warriors - instead bound by their divine covenants to be deceitful. These Witches were sought by others desperate for their power and believed answers.

History

Morgaine

Though Witches have existed for many centuries, some great and some small, none of them stand out quite so much as one. Once the wife of a soldier named Eltorak, Morgaine was a woman of class who always needed the most expensive of anything. She wrapped herself in lies after the passing of her husband until they became the truth to her. She told herself she hated him and pinned the king for all of her following misfortunes. It was in the depths of her despair that the voice of the Dark One reached out to her. Greedily she took their hand, accepting her powers and becoming one of her Witches. In the end, she got her revenge though no one knows the regrets she held in her final years. To many she stands as an example of a proper Witch.

Three-Eyed Rat

Three-Eyed Rat is one of the few deific creatures that the Verivan worship, with it being the god of Plague and Deceit. It often takes the form of a rat with fur dark gray in colour and its three eyes are a bright, everpresent ruby. It cares for nothing other than its tribute, no title other than godhood, and certainly has no master.   When Anoma was seemingly no longer touched by the hands of man, and when the Verivan were still in their cultural infancy, they knew not of such a being before. They were nothing but creatures that skittered in the darkness, not offering sacrifice nor anything to anyone. Though quickly they realized the weaknesses of their kind and devised of Breakers to even the odds against those that wished them harm. It then came carrying a plague, prophecy and a new discovery in Breaker technology.   The Verivan race began to offer their treasures and deeds to the Three-Eyed Rat, and when followers made grave mistakes they offered their life to her. Today, the Verivan continue their worship as they had for hundreds of years before, offering treasures and deeds.

Glubokiy

To Their Followers:
Very little is known about Glubokiy himself, except that he's an intensely curious sort. People have no idea where he resides, or where he currently is, and he makes no efforts to announce his comings or goings. Frequently he even disguises himself, though never as a non-Glubokiy, and he always seems to show up at the strangest times. There are a good 15% of his mortal kin that absolutely despise him, because he also makes no real concerted effort to attempt to help the Glubokiy survive, only showing up on extremely rare occasions when he's truly needed. Some argue that he surely only shows up when he is really truly needed, and since the Glubokiy never went extinct, surely he showed up when it was necessary. Either way, he is an extremely mysterious sort.
