The Kitham-Elven Conflict

The kitham-elven conflict refers to a period of time where a series of skirmishes broke out between the Kitham population and the population of newly-migrated Elves to the country of Gand.   The Kitham population at this point had been comfortably settled within Gand for almost two centuries and co-existed with the Orcs of the land, and had set up an allyship in between the two species where they lived in segregated territories but would trade and discuss political matters. Elves by nature are culturally an insular people with little interest outside of elven matters, and as such did not see out to correspond between the other two races before forming settlements. Within months, due to their advanced understanding of magic and integration with technology elves claimed a number of significant mountain ranges, drawn to the darker areas of the land due to their sensitive eyesight. This meant that they were using and monoposling a number of freshwater sources as well as large amounts of stone and metal. The kith became nervous as they could no longer access these areas and it provided the elves with a strategic field- perfect for launching an ambush with their magic if they so saw fit.   The kith would respond by sending parties of soldiers to disrupt elven settlements as well as covert operations to gather intel. This forced the elves to become aggressive in turn. They began to retaliate with their own forces and would co-opt important roads and fervently guard freshwater sources. As a result a number of kith travellers like merchants and caravans were ambushed and killed for using mountainous roads. Along the coast fishing vessels were mistaken for offensive armada and destroyed. In Lull a fishing ship was destroyed belonging to Marcestra De Deir  to folk hero who was guided by Tarn, the Cosmic Weaver to assemble kith to fight.

De Deir incensed by the death of her crew would travel Gand rallying able bodied men and women to fight. She would approach the The Church of Tarn and there she would meet a man who would come to be known as Godkin Nersi and form the church of Tarm. Whe was santified under jurisdiction of the current king and the The Royal Court  and was permitted to work along side the king's royal soldiers. The kitham forces would drive a significant portion of the elven forces into the city of Lull where they would fight amongst the evacuated city- this proved to be a strategic move on De Deira part as the elves were disadvantages by the lack of cover from the sun which irritated their delicate eye sight and the buildings rovided effective cover from offensive spells as well as various places to station archers and kith socerors. The battle woul turn when De Deir would corner the leader of the elven army but rather than kill them De Deir urged them to enter into peace talks to reach a treaty.    A treaty would be formalised and signed one week later. This would delegate sections of Gand to the races; Elves would be permitted some of the mountains in which they would dig and reshape as they pleased, orcs would continue to live undisputed in their forest homes, and the kith would be given the largest swath of land, including the majority of the coastal areas and flat plains to till.   The conflict was over but it was not without consequences; it fractured the alliance with the orcs as many kith held resentment for the lack of decisive action in engaging the elves in battle to support their allies. Many kith also viewed the elves with suspicion and fear which did little to encourage the elves to break out of their isolated ways. For many, many years the races would act separately only working within their own interests.

The Conflict

Prelude

The conflict began over concerns of the intentions the elven people had, as well as their monopolisation of the mountainous regions which cover much of of Gand.

Outcome

The elves upon consolidating the treaty would create their own cities and structures within the mountains, where orcs would control the forest and kitham would control much of the coast and plains. Elves would continue to advance rapidly due

Aftermath

In the long term several outcomes became apparent. The inaction and unwillingness of orcs to engage on behalf of the kitham caused a schimism in their political relations. Kith were less likely to share resources and trade and orcs became more segregated to their own encampment- they divorced themselves from a lot of political matters and kitham in turn became more domineering of resources. This would ultimately impact the decision for kitham to create new strongholds and cities from abandoned elven structures and to implement royal decrees which would affect the laws for all kith.    This would also reinforce to secluded nature of the elven people, they would become localised to great tunels and caves dug under the earth, which would ultimately become their tomb with they fell sick with a magic-induced plague. After a number of years kith would move into these tunnels and settlements which would form both the Major Cities and eventually the Elven Network Trade Route

Strength

The Kith had larger numbers, and more familiarity with the layout of the land. They were able to erect forts and use artillery from ships. The Kith also had the holy warrior Marcestra De Deir  and the spiritual artefacts of Godkin Nersi.
The elves had fewer numbers than that of the kith but they had magical prowess which saw them harnessing offensive magics. The elves also controlled a number of mountainous regions which would give them n advantage on height and ambushes but would also make it more difficult to retreat.

Casualties

Its estimated somewhere between 150-200 kith were killed by elves during the smaller skirmishes which predate the final battle at Lull. These were partly made up of reconnasainse and interference missions that went wrong as well as minor clashes between kith soldiers and elven fighters. It's also estimated that some 40 kith civilians were killed as a result of mistaken identify or wandering into elven encampments. During the final battle of lull 100 kith soldiers fell before the elven forces were forced into submission.
Throughout the skirmish some 200 hundred elves died in smaller scraps prior to the battle of Lull. A further 200 elves would die at Lull, with several prolific socerors among them

Objectives

The kith objectiveinitially became to drive elves off of Gand altogether, forcing out the invaders. When the elves population spread to cover much of Gand this became an impossible task. And instead it became about recouping the natural resources of the mountains and localising the elves to a set territory.
The goal of the elves were to resettle in Gand and shape the n Acura's landscape to accomodate for their physiology.
