Princess Lydia Rainier

Princess Lydia Detta Rainier one of the key members of the The Royal Family and currently third in line to the throne. She is the youngest of three royal siblings, her brother King Arvid is the current ruler of Gand, and her sister, the eldest sibling is Princess Mauricia Rainier acts as a political figurehead and runs many operations behind the scenes. Lydia is the least involved with the happenings of the court, a hands-on problem solver, she struggles to connect with issues on paper but excels at emaphsising and reaching out to those in front of her. Lydia is sharp-witted with a razor tongue and magnetic personality and is good at breaking down the walls of others and cultivating loyalty, she has the capabilities of being a leader through her personality but she lacks the desire to lead and its logistical skills. Lydia for many years has been known as the black sheep of the royal family, having a strained relationship with her father, King Halric Rainier. As an adolescent she was frequently reckless and impulsive. She would sneak out of the palace to tangle with the common people and developed a propensity to drink as well as an addiction to the drugs Kromide and Velvet At royal events she would frequently be disruptive by being unladylikelike in how boisterous she was, she even started brawls on a number of occasions with other ladies-in-waiting, which damaged the crowns reputation. Her issues came to a head when she overdosed on kromide during a soirée in the court, she suddenly collapsed at the end of the night and would have lost her life if not for the quick actions of the court physicians. She spent several weeks poorly but pulled through. This also became a turning point for her as she worked to make a recovery, today she is able to drink in moderation but will not interact with either of the drugs. She unfortunately was not able to reconcile with the king before his death.     Following the King's death, King Arvid came to rule wth a very different style, one of his earliest act was to bring a commoner into the court Sloan Du Mar who would be invited to join the The Royal Guard. Lydia would find a great friendship in Sloan who knew and cared little for her past, but also was an outsider to the traditions and manners of the court. Through Sloan she learned to connect to her citizens and forge a rapport with them, she saw a path forward where she could be a princess that serves- not stands over her people. This also helped to open her eyes to the cruelty of the Brotherhood of Tarn and the issues plaguing Zentawen. This put her further away from the favour of the Royal Court and in turn drove a wedge in between her and Mauricia. The divine between her and Mauricia only grew after her engagement to Sloan was publically announced as she feel it is highly inappropriate.   Despite the encouragement of the king, many in the court are privately scandalised by the engagement and question Sloan's suitability as it could mean a common son of a blacksmith could be appointed as king. Lydia intital excitement for the engagement has begun to wane as she has been in courtship with Sloan since they were teenagers but notes that they have grown into different people. Lydia has grown tired of being idle and is engaging with the common people more and more everyday seeking o do good wherever she can, earning her the moniker of the 'Royal of the people'. Sloan however has been distancing himself from from his past. As of late he seems all too eager to comply with whatever Avrid requests and has grown a hatred for magic users that scares her, everyday he becomes more complacent and more of a bully and less of the brazen, righteous young-man he once was.
