King Halric Rainier

King Harlric Vennar rainier was the previous king of Gand, he ruled for forty years until his death fifteen years ago. Halric was known as the iron-willed a hehas a tendancy to see many issues in black and white. He would legislate harsher punishmnts for crimes and retribution for those dabbling in the magic arts.   His wife of twelve years, the Queen of Gand, Alseria Rainier would die from a sudden illness that would sweep through the The Royal Court . Some in the court believe that this is where the vitriol of magic began as the incident was reminiscent of the plague that killed the Elven race. Following this sorcerors became the subject of a war for Gands safety.    He saw himself as superior to most people, and uplifted the nobility of Gand and their developments whilst puhing down the common people. Ensuring he kept them illiterate and uneducated. He was known for being incredibly strict with a temper that changed like the wind. He would initially appear charming and even-tempered but if anyone did anything to displease him he would berate them or in extreame case would strip people of their lands and titles.   He applied this same practice to his three children and was notoriously pedantic over their public image and their education. He heavily favoured his eldest daughter Princess Mauricia Rainier whom he named after his own late maother, the previous queen of Gand. He saw to a lot of her political education and learning and to many it was apparent that he was preparing her to become the designated heir to the throne. As she grew up however he sent her across the country to board at the College of Wintrow for longer and longer stints until she was gone from the court for years at a time. When she returned she discovered that he had named King Arvid as the designateed successor. No one is exactly clear why but this drove a wedge in between them for the remainer of his life.   He also had a soured relationship with his youngest daughter Princess Lydia Rainier whom he was incredibly distant from during her childhood, this is spculated to be due to how simillar she looks to his late wife. But as Lydia began to disregard tradions and cultures of the court tis relation ship grew more strained until they were no longer speaking.   The most ammicable relationship he was was that with Avrid, his only son. He found ease in Avrid's company but notably did not spend as much time with him as he did Mauricia, nor did he put as much attention towards his education, he often described him as '"flighty and too preoccupied with the pleasures of the earth than the soul of the country". Yet he would surprise the court by naming Avrid as the next king of Gand.    King Halric's reign would be marked by his intellectual elitism and his obsession with his legacy, he would ultimately maintain the favor of the public through national expansion and order, as well as the centralisation of government, and the reform of the College of Wintrow. But his rule would always be marked by his harsh and often volatile dementor that bled into his policies and leadership.
