Mercia

On the western waters of the Kingdom of Meria is the shining capital, Mercia. Named after Saint Mercius, the ancient merfolk diety of the tide and principal diety of Meria's state religion the Church of Saint Mercius. Mercia holds a long and storied history as a settlement having to be rebuilt several times. Since it's creation and establishment as the country's capital it has received a merciless beating from the Merian Sea's tidal torrents, especially during winter, leading to the creation of new restorative and mitigation technologies aimed at protecting the historical city from destruction.

Government

Mercia is ruled by the Mercian Aristocracy as a part of the Kingdom of Meria as well as the Mercian Mayoral Elect. Although the Mayoral Government of Mercia has regional power over the city, it is widely established that the ruler of Meria has absolute power over Mercia and other Merian territories.

Industry & Trade

Due to it's situation in the unstable parts of the Merian Sea the city of Mercia has had to undergo multiple extensive acts of renovations and rejuvenation and while a pain to the royal treasury and more importantly, the taxpayer, it has given the city an extensive trade industry of budding stonemasons and smithies.

Districts

Mercia is known for it's diverse set of districts and disciplines, with many tying back to different cultural neighbourhoods or crafts, such as the Maker's district. It is a large powerhouse for both retail as well as learning and undertaking various arts and hobbies. It also is quite well known for it's booming technology and industrial districts, amongst many tourist-tantalising guilds, being of the heralded sea-stonemasonry guild in the westward district.

Architecture

Mercia has a unique architecture studied across Namdia, owing to it's signature chalk-white walls and ornate flourishing embellishments.
