Church of Bahamut (Bah-hahm-ut)
"No I don't know why the church has a fascination with canaries" - Izikeal Silverarm, Holy Paladin of Bahamut
Founding
The church of Bahamut was slower in founding than the Cult of Tiamat - coming officially into power during the second conclave - with the arrival of the metallic dragons.
Its founding father - Ignatio Relaview - was born in the London underground. Smuggled out during one of the purges that The treasurers regularly conducted Ignatio travelled the isles, spreading the word of a great platinum dragon, benevolent and true.
Alas Ignatio was burned at the stake for heresy by the red head of Tiamat but with his public martyrdom the church began in its hidden way.
Headquarters
The church has only one official church in the isles, a temple in the city of worship, or what used to be the town of Rugby.
Many other 'good' religions have set up in Rugby, the protection of the leylines and the cities history with religion along with it's patron dragonlord the silver dragon known simply as 'Ser Brightgleam' but the temple of Bahamut holds a special place in the city, forming the central nexus of the city with all the other temples spreading off from the temple in many layers.
Small unofficial shrines dot the country but these are regularly torn down/desecrated by the cult of Tiamat.
Organisation
The church is ran by the high paladin who spreads the word of Bahamut to the disciples of the dragonhood. The current high paladin is a human - High Paladin Aric Thalor
The disciples are split into four different functions:
Paladins
Monks
Scribes
Medicae
Paladins are the travelling hammers of Bahamut, spreading the word from the Bishop to the public whilst commiting great and good deeds in their patrons names. These however are few and far between - it is a dangerous position as the church of Tiamat is always on the look out to remove these valuable pieces from the board.
Monks are the most commonly seen preacher and the most experienced and dangerous will travel from town to town, spreading the word, either publicly or in a more seditious fashion, depending on the territory they are in. Healers, warriors and religious leaders combined into one monks of Bahamut are flexible in their role.
Scribes are the historians and fixed preachers of the church. Most often found in the main temple, scribes are weavers of history, using divination magic to guide the church's members as well as preaching to the masses. Not commonly seen outside of Rugby.
Medicae are the dedicated healers and alchemists of the church. When travelling they will forgo the regular symbols of the church to avoid conflict and will often treat anyone, regardless of affiliation.
Worship
The temple has regular prayer days but across the country worship is often in private and secretly.
No tithes are gathered, but donations are always welcome and any money made on the travels from church members is often donated back into the church coffers.
The church follows the dogma of Bahamut which is based on justice, nobility, protection and honor. His followers are to always uphold the highest ideals of honor and justice, to be constantly vigilant against evil and to oppose it from all fronts, and to protect the weak, liberate the oppressed and defend just order.
