test
Oh man, what is this. I mean, this originally started as a test world for testing CSS stuff and things.
But could this become a thing? Idk. But I had a random idea when I thought of the name for this world. Kind of a meme thing like "where does the default blender cube go when people delete them?" Except cyberspace, because /dev/null is a computer thinggy (known as a Null Device) and I thought this would be funny idk also it's a cool name for a world and i'm surprised no one has taken it yet.
This truly started on September 2nd, 2025.
Here is some tooltipstered text. You should hover over it! See how the mouse cursor changes?
Null Device - Something within the world. A... well device / technology, I would guess. or IS that the world? o.O
Nah, the world is some cyberhellscape and /dev/null is a tiny device in the world that will delete anything. Like a mini pocket black hole of sorts. Some nefarious characters are currently in possession of it and are using it for bad / intimidation.
Obviously Nulcheck as a character. duh
Computer terminology for things
Zero - character?
Main characters are trying to get out of this cyberhellscape/out of the Null Device? Would that make this a Portal World genre?
idk doesn't really make sense on a technical level because that's not how /dev/null works, but whatever. Could be like trying to escape prison type of thing (like you were sent to /dev/null to die or something).
A hellish cyberspace landscape filled with junk: viruses, test files, default blender cubes, random shit
someone took the default Blender cubes and made a city
a forest of New Folders
open plains field of test files
river of random bits that were used to stress test hardware
Data Stream - A constant stream of bits from... somewhere.
Data Trees
a vast expansive ocean of NULL (sea of zeroes) (Void)
Either could be encroaching on the "land" (things are being "zeroed out" or wiped) or the land could be expanding, overriding the zeros (like data is being written to a disk). or both?
The Void is an infinite abyss, a vast expanse characterized by profound emptiness. It appears that the Void is entirely lacking in Energetic Flux, resulting in the formation of the distinct boundary layer that separates the "atmosphere" from the Void itself.
The Medium / Grid - the "atmosphere", where the Energetic Flux resides.
main_city would of course have like a firewall or something, and everything outside it is a lawless, dangerous landscape.
fragmented biomes (uh oh, someone didn't defrag their disk! lol) - could make this a reference to the "Far lands" in older Minecraft versions
THE CLOUD LOL
it probably bits bits lol
could make a reference to "Bitsy" from these D&D shorts i've been seeing on youtube. lol could be MC's pet?
i mean, it's all bits, it's all 1s and 0s, right? So the "1s" are physically the things, and the "0s" are just the empty space. so where you aren't is just technically 0s in front of you, kinda like it's air, you just dont see anything there. This would make the ocean really just an endless void of nothing. you'd probably "fall off" the land, like some kind of minecraft skyblock map?
Shapeshifters probably? (Named Synthetics/Synths? Or Bit Shifters) They can rearrange their bits to look like something else
Bits are very tiny, almost like dust. Rearranging your form would probably take a long time, but somehow these guys can do it on the fly.
They call everyone else Statics, because they can't change their form (also a programming reference)
Codebreakers would probably be an organization
"Don't render out here! It's a dangerous place; do not let them see you out here. Mask up."
AI companion that nobody wants, but doesn't leave. Named Echo? (also kind of a reference to Overwatch. RIP)
Zero-state - term or name for something
Kernel - character? Leader of this main_city
VOID - character? acronym for something, probably just goes by V. Can walk on the ocean of zeros / the void?
Glitch - crime boss character
Little bugs that crawl around the shady area outside of main_city.
Alpha bugs are the worst. Most grotesque and aggressive.
Beta bugs aren't good, but not as bad as the Alpha ones.
Glitches (?) are the most refined little creatures, but they do... well glitch out every now and then.
"Spectre" and "Meltdown" virus references.
main_city has a "meltdown" at some point; it's just all chaos.
Spectre could be a character
Pirate Bay - don't know if i can use it, but i mean, come on, how could i not?
Ana Logue - character; speaks a different language, needs a translator (named DAC (digital-to-analog converter)) to talk to other characters.
Bitmask - idk but sounds cool
The Operand / Operator - idk but sounds cool. Maybe some sort of authority thing?
Root somethings - idk but sounds cool. Maybe some sort of authority thing?
Hex-Blight - a condition or something
Stack Overflow - edge of the landmass where it fades into the ocean of nothingness?
The Stack - idk something
The Unsigned - a group that can only do good? (Unsigned data types can only represent non-negative numbers)
Systerra - System and Terra combined; the landmass that i've been mentioning?
Nexus / Ether / Ethernet - the realm / world
A kind of energy that's just.. around. Kinda like how some people have for their magic; their characters can harness the "magic in the air" so to speak and do things with it. Except here it's just some kind of energy and not called magic.
Can concentrate the energy into things, like a little shocky shocky shiv or something idfk. Or use it to flip bits and seemingly create materials and things out of thin air?
Only the "precursor" Analog based beings can manipulate energy. The normal digital Constructs are not able to do this.
This "energy" also causes a phenomenon, lightning storms, which can cause bit flips to a large degree.
No one knows how they form (think of it like a cosmic ray causing a bit flip incident IRL)
If a Construct gets hit with a lightning bolt, they will most likely die
Only way to damage / hurt / kill other Constructs is probably having weapons that utilize this energy. Can also have projectiles / firearms! Woo guns!
Ingest "food" for Constructs to have their own energy within their bodies (like humans in a way). If they have too low energy, their bodies cannot retain the bits that make up their form, and they'll just kinda fade out. (Mr. Stark, I don't feel so good... turns to dust)
The Unity Protocol - idk sounds cool
Parity Flux - idk sounds cool
Bit Rot - a condition; decomposition. could also be called bit decay
Partitions - sections / districts of a city
Void Leviathan - large "sea" creature that resides in the Void. Eats the small clusters of bits that are within the Void. Creates its own Energetic Flux to live, as there isn't any in the Void.
Styling
For actual article contents, probably fine to do normal stuff just because it'll make it easy to read. But article titles, excerpts and stuff: do not capitalize the first letter (there are exceptions) and no full stop (period) in the excerpt! Articleblock ExampleHere is some tooltipstered text.
