County of Hallowgrave
Remote and Serene
Hallowgrave is ruled by a young countess known as Helga the Fair, most likely due to her strangely non-biased judicial rulings. It consists of the eastern part of the Moon Peaks, Veilguard Wood, the Hills of Ascension, the Cinder Marsh, and practically everything up until the Telegarr River on the west side. It also contains the keep of the Northern March. Though it is quite large in size, it is also the most remote of the provinces and least densely populated. There is plenty of arable land around the meadows to the south, so it's not uncommon to find a homestead or village every now and then. However, to the north, you'll find almost no land there (except for the Veilguard Wood) that is able to be farmed or even serve as good grazing land for livestock. Mining and lumber are the main operations there. There is a large number of dwarves living in the northern, snowy part of the county. They, like most dwarves, are really difficult to find. The town of Hallowgrave is unique in the fact that it doesn't have walls surrounding it on 360 degrees, which is mainly because it's not exactly under threat all the time, but that's because there have been so many adventurers, Wolves and other mercenaries, hunters, and soldiers of all types slaying the threats of the wilderness here. The law enforcement is very strict anyway, so it's not like people can just sneak in or out of the city without paying tolls (as the non-walls are actually the woods surrounding the town), and thieves can't really just run into the wilderness to escape. Patrols are everywhere, and all counts have required utmost safety for their citizens. The reason the town is called Hallowgrave is because of the massive cemetery that even reaches into an ancient dwarven necropolis from the Divine Era, which can be found near the waterfall and the watermill at the northern entrance of the town.
