Bosta

The islands largest town, Bosta, lies between the dormant volcano that dominates the island's center, and the coast at the inlet of a fjord. At the top of the volcano, with a view over the entire island, is the Keep of Bosta. The town itself is built along the gently rising slope at the bottom of the volcano, and stretches all the way to the pier dominated coast. The buildings and streets of the town are made of the volcanic rocks that dominates the island, giving the town a rather gloomy appearance with the grey and black colors, and lack of vegetation. The streets are narrow and winding, designed to follow the natural contours of the land. At night, glowing lanterns filled with bioluminescent algae from the island’s caves cast an eerie blue-green light over the town.
As the largest town on the island, and the home of the Laird, Bosta functions as the islands hub for trade, governance, and security.

Districts

Bosta can generally be divided into 4 districts: The Harbor District, the Artisan's Ward, the Market Square, and the Foothold.
The Harbor District is by far the most busy district of the town, if not the island. Located at the base of town this area is home to docks, warehouses, and fish markets. Ships from the mainland arrive here, though few outsiders linger longer than necessary. The locals however, knows that this is the center of the island, as many of the residents work at the docks, or on the ocean on fishing vessels. Therefore, this area hosts many small public houses, taverns, and restaurants that can be found if one dares walk into the narrow alleyways, or in through doors that looks to be homes, to find these small near-charming establishments.
While the Harbor District is the busiest district of Bosta, The Artisan's Ward is the industrial heart of Bosta. Here blacksmiths, alchemists, and enchanters work their craft using mostly the ressources of the island. The alleys of the ward is enveloped in the mixing vapors from the forges and alchemists, and the low hanging fog that so often befalls the island. Scents from the vapors of the workshop nearly overpowers the brimstone smell of the island itself.
When locals speak of "The Market Square" one would naturally assume that they mean a singular open space with stalls and shops, but in reality the market square is a series of streets in between the Artisan's Ward and the Foothold, with slightly wider streets and alleys of the town. Here one can find some of the few inns of the town, restaurants, and shops selling the wares made in the Artisan's Ward or imported from the mainland.
The Foothold is the area furthest up the volcano, which is to mean right on the foothold of the moutain. This area is the wealthier part of town, and home to influential merchants, scholars, and the island’s ruling figures.
