Nòva Carcassona
Demographics
The original colonists were from Carcassonne, France and were members of an Occitan language preservation society. The official language is thus Occitan, while French and English are used in dealing with outside communities.
Government
An official, with the title of Châtelain, is elected every year on New Year's Day. Their role is to act as mediator and community planner while seeking wide spread consensus. Town meetings are held once every two weeks at which time decisions can be overturned with a majority of citizens approval.
Industry & Trade
The main purpose in the settlement efforts was complete self-sufficiency. Aside from the geothermal electrical generator, they operate very similarly to a medieval European village.
Geography
The community is built near the foothills of Mt. Ikeda and has high quality soil. Being inland and surrounded by trees and other natural cover, Nòva Carcassona is spared the high winds that occasionally sweep through the islands.
Climate
The climate is classified as tropical savanna, with distinct wet and dry seasons of relatively equal length.
