Widowmaker

Archivist's Excerpt from: Spirits of the North Country: A Corking Good History, Red Edition, CVI 42.4

If one finds himself in at the end of a particularly long Thursday as, oh, say, a Tramrunner, one might wind up at the Lager than Life Pub in Attistock, and there he is likely to order the pub's signature drink, the "Widowmaker." The ingredients of this devastating concoction are as of yet unknown to any living Archivist, but only to that of S. M. Barclay of Attistock, proprietor of the Lager than Life Pub and inventor of the drink.

What can be said of the beverage is that it is generally served neat, and with a single tramway spike. For texture. The experience of drinking has been best described by one Alphonse Esker of Harchester upon first being taken to the pub by his father and given one for his sixteenth birthday, against his mother's wishes:

"Bollocks, like having a mint-julep rammed up your nose while some blighter from Wesbeldt caves your head in with a brick, innit?"
— Alphonse Esker

Regardless of the experience, they remain a popular choice for what locals call the "Greased & Guzzled," or extremely work-weathered.

Curiously enough, following the events of , the Widowmaker was the most-requested item in all of Orphan Towne, for as many months, even by Orphan's women, who normally refrained from this particular beverage (as did the majority of smaller men). It was even requested, and its absence complained about, more than new flatware, though it has been apocryphally credited as single-handedly restarting the economy of the town with the settlement of Pendulum, and the establishment of the Barely Alive.
