Ration Well

Archivist's Excerpt from: Alone in the Cold: The Story of Orphan Towne, its Strange History, & its Stranger Occupants, CVI 42.4

Though actually one of three wells left in Jalóheim, the Ration Well in Issel, the central district of Jalóheim, is the settlements primary water source since the drying of the Yedak River. Since that event, these wells have become, despite their humble appearance, perhaps the central aspect of life in The Expanse for the surviving Galó. Water's ridiculous scarcity has made round-the-clock guarding of these water sources a necessity, a job the Serkers take on as their most accessible opportunity for valour, apparently. Three Serkers guard the well during the daylight ration hours, while one remains on night time duty.

Residents are permitted to fill their Waterflask twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening, tracked by little wooden tags each local member of the Clan receives daily and trades for their water amounts at the well, natural resources being, naturally, government-controlled even in the wasteland.
