Sorcerer
Conduits of the Anon
Sorcerer, or sorceress if female, are those who have a natural ability to manipulate the Anon (Magic) beyond most others. Many believe that individuals are born as sorcerers. This is a twist of the truth. Having the innate ability does not make a sorcerer. Like their counterpart the Wizard, it is through training and study that one can becomes a sorcerer. Both the wizards and the sorcerers have the same fundamental source for their abilities, Elf or other 'magical' ancestry.
Many species, like elves, Fairy, and Dragon are magical creatures, with this ability to manipulate magic to varying extents built into their very core. This genetic code was 'gifted' to Human in the ancient past through the close relations of elf and humans. The descendants passing it through the ages. Most Normon cultures have some elven blood in their lineage. Many live their entire lives never tapping into this raw power. The few that understand their heritage, often those of the noble class, join wizarding colleges to hone their skills in Casting, becoming wizards.
Sorcerers and wizards are, in theory, blurry terms that many often find interchangeable. There is some truth to this. Across Novyum, and to a lesser extent all Ethae, there are countless people with traces of elven bloodlines. Often these people learn a few basic cantrip, such as creating temporary lights or igniting cooking fires. It is enough for most. However, it is those that wish to advance this ability that each the education needed to control it. Ultimately it is this education that will determine whether one goes down the wizard path, or the sorcerer path.
Wizards learn the science of magic, how to manipulate the Solanon energy around them to create their magic. This is a slower path, but also a profoundly safer path. Sorcerers on the other hand pull their internal magic, what is known as the Daanan, up and out of them, channeling this power into their casting. In essence sorcerers use their bodies as a wizard might use a Wand or Staff. Their bodies are the conduit the magic flows through.
While we have been using the term 'sorcerer', it might be more fitting to use 'sorceress' throughout this text. Sorceresses are far more common than their male counterpart, at least in humans. For human sorcerers, the Anon channeling through the body can take its toll. 'The fuel of the Anon is human life' as the Prydian proverb goes. Men who cast strong magic often will often find themselves sicky and weak physically. Some suffer premature aging. Women do not suffer these effects, but will find themselves barren, unable to have children. The life force in their wombs protecting them from the negative effects through sacrifice. This effects noble families less than the commoners. This is believed to be that their genetics have higher elven traces within their bloodlines.
Arc Killon of the Kingdom of Marras, in Southern Jerain is the only true wizarding college that focuses its education on sorcery magic first and wizard magic secondary. The college divides it curriculum between the genders, guiding the women in sorcery, and the men in the wizarding Way of Anon. The Hallow Corterie of Marras takes the finest of these sorceresses into their ranks.
Note: to understand the difference between a wizard and a sorcerer, one must look at how they learn to manipulate magic. A Wizard learns to use that internal power, the Daanan, to move and alter the magic outside their bodies, what is known as Solanon. Sorcerers, on the other hand, have learned to pull that Daanan power within themselves outward. It is the Daanan that sorcerers use rather than the external Solanon power.
