Her own leisure hours are spent tending bonsai orange trees upon the roof, trimming each branch with the same meticulous patience she applies to intrigue. She drinks lavender tea, never wine, claiming clarity is worth more than oblivion.   Few know that Delilah meets annually with her elder brother, Elias, now a Farenian tax‑collector. Over chess they trade rumours of court and coast. Family loyalty binds them, but on the board she shows no mercy: her brother’s king rarely survives past the ninth move.   Her Burmese cats - Pepper, Saffron, and Old Admiral Jinks - patrol the corridors like furry sentinels. Delilah converses with them in low Calikan, a half‑forgotten dialect learnt from a travelling magician.
