Sendra Aya was born twenty-one summers ago beneath the leaking eaves of the Fringes, a soot-blackened warren tucked hard by Bridgeport’s harbour. Her mother stitched sail-cloth for half-crowns; her father, when sober, carried coal crates and barrels for trading companies. From those cramped rafters Sendra first heard music: rivermen bawling shanties, cathedral bells drifting across the estuary, and, once a week, the distant aria that spilled from a noble’s newfangled glass-speaker (an expensive contrivance none in the Fringes could ever hope to own). She resolved, there and then, to trade coal-dust for footlights. Bridgeport itself is a study in contrasts. Pooring out from the Fringes, beggars haggle for sour loaf amid donkey carts and mud; a few minutes uphill, top-hatted bankers and elegant fashion stores wait patiently for customers. Somewhere between these two worlds sits Bridgeport's Opera House, a candle-lit building old as the queendom, though now fitted with steam-driven scenery lifts and an aether-lamp proscenium provided and maintained by Gnome Workshop. Here Sendra earns a modest stipend: every third night she sings choruses and, on rare occasions, a shimmering solo that silences even the rustling paper fans of the duchesses.

A day in the life of Sendra Aya

Sendra Aya wakes up early each day in her small, cramped apartment in the medieval city of Bridgeport. She begins her morning with a hot cup of tea and some light stretching before preparing for her first job of the day - rehearsals at the local opera house. Here she works on perfecting various pieces that she will soon be performing onstage, two times a week. After finishing rehearsals Sendra makes her way to her second job to earn some much needed additional coin.

In between jobs Sendra takes time out to explore all that Bridgeport has to offer: its many little eating businesses and markets providing inspiration for new performances or just quiet moments after work; taking part in festivals around town or simply strolling along cobbled streets admiring architecture from centuries past – all experiences which help keep alive both the spirit inside but also those watching when performance night arrives again. When evening falls she wanders back home for rest before starting another hard working yet fulfilling day once more tomorrow. Sendra often wishes she had friends with whom she could share her time in the city. GM info / spoilers / plot hooks.
