Born in the hill‑town of Thistlewick, Daphne arrived in Bridgeport astride a horse carriage, her toolbox rattling and eyes alight with curiosity. Though barely three feet tall, she commands a room with laughter and a storyteller’s flourish. Guests of the Cat House love her for mischievous parlour games - Gnomish Truth‑or‑Dare is infamous - and massages delivered with surprising strength.
Her father, Chalkwell Bramble‑Sprocket, breeds phosphorescent mushrooms; her mother, Iona, sculpts mechanical birds that warble sunrise alarms. Letters from home arrive weekly in explosive colours, each ink vials of botanical dye. Daphne pins them above her bunk like a patchwork aurora.
She reinvests every silver into ledgers, blueprints, and whispered business advice. Someday, she vows, she will own an establishment where invention meets indulgence. Her current hobby involves repurposing discarded theatre sets into portable greenhouses; the prototype now blooms riotous nasturtiums on the Cat House roof, feeding both bees and poets.
On rest‑days she frequents dockside salvage auctions, purchasing cracked boiler plates and brass gears by the crate. Children follow her, squealing when a gear sproings free; she rewards them with peppermint screws - actual sweets moulded into screw shape.
Her closest friends at the Cat House are Sendra and Cecily, and they are quite the formidable team. Though unique in their own ways, they all work towards the same end: satisfied and returning customers. When they are not hosting, they are out and about in the city and its environs, seeking out new and exciting experiences.
