Creation Myth
According to the average Siarvaldian, the world was once covered in darkness, and the ancient people that lived there were fighting against the monsters that lurk in the dark constantly. Then, the Mother and the Father descended upon Siarvald, and with them came their divine allies: the Lightbringer, who brought them sustenance during the day, and the Guide, who guided them through the darkest nights. Together, they ushered a new age for Siarvaldan civilization, helping their rapid development. However, when the gods descended upon the world, the way was left open for two dark entities, that had no intention of helping their brethren. Those were the Betrayer, who took refuge where neither the Lightbringer nor the Guide would find him, and the Destroyer who, after a brief skirmish with the other gods, was cast out into the Yawning Ocean and sealed there, forever to rage over his impotence. Ever since that day, the Betrayer has worked to undermine the work of his fellows, and has been soundly trounced every time. He always retreats to the underground of the continent, where no other god would dare to look for him.Worship
An organised and proud people, the Siarvaldian value all things that help their community as a whole. They do not suffer those that would throw the fabric of their society into chaos, including monsters and criminals. The Siarvaldian people are deeply religious, and often praise their gods for all manners of things, both big and small. Often, this manifests as a private prayer, or a mere whispered word when one is about to undertake a dangerous or important task. While Siarvaldans are not known for their extravagant parties or feasts, there exists one exception; the Days of Thanks. Despite the sheer power and immortality of King Vah'dis the Undying, no one from Siarvald would dare call him divine; only people from Yasamaq sometimes refer to him as the God-King, a nickname deeply despised by most Siarvaldans for its purported heresy.Ranks
While the Protector-Saint is the effective religious leader of the country, there are also ranks relative to one's position within a certain religious establishment. For instance, the leader of a conglomeration of worshippers of the Mother / the Father is called the First Child; for the Guide, that rank is called the High Attendant. For the Lightbringer, they are called the Zenith.
