Day of Thanks

The Day of Thanks is a religious holiday celebrated on the 60th of every month on Siarvald.   The Day of Thanks is an occasion for the people of Siarvald to unwind, relax, and give thanks to the Gods and the King for their safety and their safe way of life. A typical Day of Thanks is divided into three parts:
  • Greet the Sun: Beginning at sunrise, and ending after noon, this period is dedicated to the worship of the Lightbringer. This part of the day is filled with a lot of cooking of food, especially of the kind that is produced directly from the earth; to consume the food the Lightbringer has helped grow is to show proper respect for his gifts.
  • Respect the Father and the Mother: Beginning in the afternoon and ending after sundown, this period is dedicated to the worship of the Father and the Mother. This part of the day is filled with games and activities that allow the people to relax. It is particularly popular with children, and many activities are aimed towards them.
  • Follow the Guide: Beginning at sundown and lasting until late into the night, this period is dedicated to the worship of the Guide. Under the cover of the stars, this part of the day is dedicated to telling tales, singing songs, catching up with friends, and overall building a stronger community. Treasure hunts are organised in the safer parts of the continent.
During a Day of Thanks celebration, all people of Siarvald, from the lowest peasant to the richest of Descendants, are freed from their obligations and may take a break from their usual work in order to celebrate. While some people still work during this day (such as farmers who may need to watch over their crops), almost all Siarvaldans try to attend at least one part of the celebrations in full.

Execution

All Siarvaldans gather to the nearest temple, where they spend the day praying, drinking, and eating in equal measures. This is thought to give thanks to the gods for granting them a good life for yet another month, and to ask them for the same for the coming month. Thus, those days are called the Days of Thanks.
