Nachkoma
The Nachkoma "those who came after" are species who are not thought to descend from the original genetic ancestors of the Island of Woad, and were non-sentient beings who gained life force through unknown means. They include the Coriniaid, the Prydyn, and the Saesona but also their genetic descendant and Cambion such as the Glendatis, Hexen, Alrauna, and though they have hidden it, the Gannwyll Gwydd as well.
Who are they and what do they look like?
- They are typically primitive forms, as in that they haven't changed much from their original manifestations
- Their adaptability is in their ability to edit their own genetic material:
- Coriniaid are formed from a mix of silica, petroleum, and red algae
- Saesoniaid are formed from infected phytoplankton and lichen
- Very little is known about the Prydyn, but they seem to be connected to concentrated oxygen masses that are particularly popular in the North
What are their senses or perceptions?
- Most can only initially communicate through chemical signals and/or vibrations
- Even if they grow eyes, this is typically their weakest sense
- Corinidiad can't feel pain, however Saesonaid can
- Coriniaid can transform their DNA and appearance through converting vibrations into amino acids, then injecting them into their genetic code
- Saesoniaid are essentially viruses who require a host to reproduce
Where are they in your setting?
- The Coriniaid are most concentrated in the South of the Island
- The Saesonaid are most concentrated on the coast (throughout the Island)
- The Prydyniaid are found mostly in the North and sometimes in dense forests
How do they survive in their environment?
- They are extremely fast with copying and altering their own genetic code as they are fundamentally just viruses, especially the Saesoniaid
- They are extremely adaptable and have a broad energy source, with primitive makeups that degrade much slower than other life forms
What is their general attitude?
- This is a large matter of debate
- Some groups of Nachkoma, such as the Sindainox and the Glendatis, have evolved into fully independant hybrid species
- Coriniaid are known to be the mildest in terms of aggression
- Saesonaid are disputed - the Glendatis, who descend directly from them, are highly organized and technologically advanced, whereas most Prydyniaid colonies seem to disperse after their food source depletes and are solitary
- Prydydiaid are known to be aggressive, and this is why Godsibb are thought to be unfortunate people who have met with a Saesonaid
How do they feel about the other peoples?
- This is highly dependant on context, location, time, etc.
- Coriniaid were mainly in contact with the Myacoris, the largest and most diverse Milenakos people
- Some, like the Loiren and Mehnot dynasty, were in particular symbiotic with the Vespula
- Saesonaid interacted with a species known as the Ephemeras, who were said to be a Milenakos group local to wetlands and coasts.
- In the Southwest this resulted in a full population replacement, emerging as the new Morven Glendatis culture.
- In the Northeast this refulted in the emerging Odonata Glendatis culture
- Not enough data is present on the Prydyniaid
