Coriniaid

Though the identity of Dando the Priest had been programmed as his favourite form since creation, he had many forms. He dissipated into a pool of shimmery oil for a moment, before growing into a giant onyx caterpillar, low hisses coming from his mouth as he towered over Armael.

The Coriniaid are a species evolved from a combination of oil, silica, and algae which washed up on the shores of the island and evolved alongside many of the Milenakos.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Their natural form is a shiny rock or dark oil, sometimes glittering/smoking - when transforming they undergo sublimation/deposition. Unless they change it, their exterior pigments are the same as their natural form. Sometimes they can only half-transform due to the amount of details involved in changing their DNA, and that can cause them to have somewhat frightening forms where muscle and bone shows as they have not fully grown flesh.

Biological Traits

They live about 250 years, slowly shedding parts of their cell lining over time, until they disintegrate or sublimate into nothing. There is a 1% chance they will stay in their last transformation when they die, otherwise they disappear as if they never existed.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They can survive off of a lot of different energy sources but particularly enjoy other sources of oil and grease, particularly lard-based soap. The perfume also makes a great flavour. They require this for energy, alongside photosynthesis, to keep their ability to transform.

Behaviour

There is a sadness about them, being seen as "born from nothing" but seeking the ideals of animal life. Rarely violent or malicious under a single identity, tend to be solitary or integrate into existing communities rather than have their own distinct culture/clan - the Sinnox are a rare example of a distinct culture emerging and fully achieving animal behavior in which they are prone to social organization and violence.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Coriniaid are used not just to create sentient beings, but all types of products. It was sometime seen as the "miracle" or life-giving material. They are often forcibly turned into animals/other beings and hunted, as at the moment of their death there is a 1% chance their dead body remains in its last form.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Even when transformed fully, they have no sense of smell or taste, and are naturally blind unless they grow eyes. Their vision remains below average among the species they are splicing from. However, they can process sound and have excellent hearing, being able to communicate and sense vibrations with a supernatural accuracy. They cannot feel pain, and often keep themselves from properly developing a nervous system. This affects the Sinnox profoundly, making them prone to Silicon Sickness, a nervous system disorder.

They can survive extreme environments and change their forms at will, heal easily, are almost impossible to kill, and also are difficult to detect.

Naming Traditions

When the Myacoris scientists were studying the Coriniaid, they named them as we often do stars or planets - a deity or mythic figure, combined with the coordinates to which they were discovered. Selectrons, which were made to help identify Coriniaid with evolved silica molecules, often spit out a randomly generated name.
