3rd Vaeraleusday of High Summer, Second Age 1855: I entered the celebrations by driving a sleigh. I have never driven anything before but it turned out to be easier than expected. after a few pointers I had excellent control over the vehicle. The idea to scatter some snow over a summer celebration brought some attention, but also some sneers from the summer elf nobility. Good. That was the point - to show them that Winter is back. Perhaps I should get a sleigh after we return home, I wonder what these things can do when brought up to speed.
The fields of gold was an interesting athletic competition. I took part in it mostly to test myself. While not entirely untrained, I wouldn't call myself an expert in athletic competitions and I expected most of those who entered spent serious time training for it. I was not surprised to see Bahzel and Malakar scoring high, they took gold and silver in the long jump, and Malakar won gold in the javelin, but running is where I did best. I may have only taken 3rd place, but Malakar and Bahzel looked like they gave up on running entirely.
The arena fights were exciting to watch, to see what our kin have to offer in the realm of battle skills, exciting enough that the spectators misplaced a few coins while watching the fighting. Daereth and Zaelith joined Malakar in this contest, and after many difficult fights Malakar proved to be victorious. Quite a feat, given the summer elves prioritized our warriors as targets, though his ability to heal his own wounds gave him certain advantage. More glory for house Nytraven.
Tomorrow is the obstacle course, there are supposed to be magical moving platforms. I'm not concerned about my ability to hop from one platform to another without getting knocked off, but the prospect of hijacking a floating platform and racing it to the end of the gauntlet is too good to pass it up. I will also be presenting some discoveries from Hithfaer at the debate forum. either Aranesi's ley line catcher, she would have loved to be here and present it herself, I would honor her memory by showing her work but it would show to the world what we are capable of. Not how we achieved it, but just knowledge that it is possible would spur others to try and replicate it. The Oneiric Veil would be my second plan, even though I haven't tested it fully yet, I might be able to trick some of the summer kin to do it for me, and if they develop a dependency, I would be more than happy to provide them with a supply. Both have their pros and cons to be shown to the public, so I will make the final decision just before stepping forward. I believe there is also an archery competition near the end. I'm not too bad with my aim so I should do alright, but again I imagine the best archers of the realm will be present so it would take an incredible stroke of luck for me to emerge victorious.
