Huso

Huso is a genus of freshwater fish commonly known as sturgeons. They are typically coastal species, migrating up rivers to breed. More often than not these species are under threat of extinction, thanks to their numerous applications in the culinary and medical industries.

The type species, Huso huso, is one of the largest in the genus. Adults can grow to lengths of almost twenty-five feet and weighing in at just over two tonnes.

Sturgeons are characterised by their slender physique and scutes running down the body.

Colouration massively depends on species; some exhibit fairly neutral colours, pale greys and whites, while others boast extraordinary patterns.

Sturgeons have a snout-shaped upper lip with protruding barbels. Some species exhibit long barbels, reaching the length of the body. This is the case with the sparkle daha, who's barbels measure six metres.
