New Argos Radio Tower

This article is focused on Talmar, the planet being uplifted to modern technology.
After being destroyed in the Battle for Talmar, the New Argos Radio Tower was rebuilt as is now a key feature of Talmar's only city. In addition to its entertainment programming, it's become a vital method of communication between Talmarian settlements and frontier regions, especially during the uplifting process.

A Talmarian Symbol

of Division

The original radio tower was built in 3142, and over its lifetime, was used for music, news, and communication across the city of New Argos. Due to its low transmission power, it had poor reception in the villages up- and down-river of the city. To them, even purchasing a radio receiver was an unjustifiable cost. As the radio became the preferred news source within the city, the villages came to resent the city even more, and blame the tower for it.   During the Battle for Talmar, the tower was used to amplify a weapon that nullified Legion mechs across the planet. Though this helped break the siege, protect the planet, and end the Legion Incursion, it also destroyed the tower. Its collapse destroyed a stretch of buildings across the city, adding to the collatoral damage already done.
So the tower fell? Why should I care? It was ugly anyways. It will be nice to go to the city and not have that ugly mountain of metal staring at me the whole time.

of Defiance

This tower isn't as ugly as the last one. And they hosted my sister's band. That was cool.   Hope this one doesn't fall.

With completion of the new tower in 3211, planetary leaders ensured its purpose would serve the planet as a whole. This tower's range covers all habited reaches of the planet, and basic receivers are provided to all, free of cost. Until uplifting is complete, it's the most reliable means of mass communication available.   Outside of emergencies, the tower's main purpose is to build community. It's attached to the new community center and features native musicians, promotes local events, broadcasts sporting events, and hosts radio shows for kids and adults alike.
More than that, the tower serves as a symbol of Talmar. Of how they withstood an overpowering force, and stopped the Legion from taking over. Even once the planet's technology outpaces it, the tower will stay.
