Summary

Between its captain and its chaos, the Dragon's Daughter is among the most notorious pirate crews in the sector. Their actions are bold, flashy, and unpredictable. Though they've gone through five ships, their captain has their unwavering loyalty.
To other pirates, they can be a nuisance, but always have good stories to tell. Any merchant knows it's better to surrender to them than to risk death in a explosive fight.

Reputation

Beware the crimson sigil,
Sign of the Dragon's Daughter.
No matter your defense,
Your plans they will a'slaughter.
And if your life is boring,
With change long overdue,
Then with a favor to the captain,
You can join the crew.
— Author unknown
Near anyone has a chance of joining the crew of the Dragon's Daughter. Many end up with an invitation because the captain takes a liking to them, often the result of a favor. A fair number of crew members were originally targets, and accepted the invite out of confusion as much as desire.   The resulting hodge-podge crew has disparate backgrounds, from acupuncture to zoology. Their plans reflect this, sometimes involving chickens, musical performances, buffets, or something just as strange. Most notably, they're not afraid to sacrifice their own ship to get the prize. Perhaps because of these unique methods, they're surprisingly successful as a crew.   Between this, the possibility of surprise recruits, and the looming threat of their ship bursting into flames, their crimson red insignia has become a symbol for sudden and unexpected change. Despite their notoriety and propensity for boldness, typical encounters with the crew are rarely lethal unless the other party makes the first move. There are always exceptions, however...

Leadership

Unlike most crews, members aren't aligned by ideology but by loyalty to their captain. Without Captain Hawk, there is no Dragon's Daughter. The force of his personality runs the ship and defines the crew. Those who mistake him for the off-beat hero from the comics often leave when they're confronted with the bloody reality of piracy.   The captain's first mate has become nearly as much of a fixture as he has. Brady fills the gaps the captain leaves behind, being strict and structured where he is lax and flippant. She's the reality check to his whimsy. It's also rumored she's the one who paints the nails on the captain's remaining hand.

Summary

Complete with a peg leg, tricorn hat, and parrot on his shoulder, Captain Hawk looks the part of a storybook pirate, and his gruff voice is just as loud as his attire. He's been a pirate captain for decades, despite repeatedly blowing up or otherwise destroying his ships.
He is the inspiration behind popular comic series The Adventures of Captain Hawk

Summary

Brady has been with the crew ever since the Dragon's Daughter III's crash landing allowed her to break out of prison. After assessing its captain, she invited herself to the crew.
Often seen as the opposite of Captain Hawk, Brady is commanding, efficient, confident, and the master of hyper-specific threats of detailed violence.

Timing Schmiming
Some of the ship deaths might be different between here and the recorded sessions of the mini-campaign, How to Pirate Space. I hadn't mapped everything out when I ran that compaign, and in doing so here I realized different dates and numbers made more sense.

Crew

Bridge

The bridge is the command center of the ship, where piloting and navigation takes place. It's among the biggest honors to be trusted enough to pilot the Dragon's Daughter. During combat, Captain Hawk has a luxurious swivel chair in the center of the room to oversee everything and issue orders.

Everyone likes Alim. The right combination of laid-back and skilled, he shares stories of his time as a solo pirate and suggestions on how to get rich with less effort. There's a rumor he has some degree of telekinetic ability.
Alim met Captain Hawk when they both targeted the same merchant vessel. He offered his skills and ship to the captain in exchange for the easier life of piloting an established crew.

Rami is a perfectionist who always has to be right. He's seeks ways to prove he's better than others, whether at piloting, sniping, or knowing more than anyone else in the room.
He was meant to be an engineer on Torm, but opted instead to flee from the pressures of having his life chosen for him. As a pirate, he can set his own course.

Engineering

The engineering bay includes the ship's engine and other vital systems. The engineers often spread out across the ship to fix subsystems wherever they're broken.

Emo music blaring from Cregg's headphones signals his presence before he does. Often found scratching sad poems into his journal, he has a deep and one-sided crush on first mate Brady.
As a merchant's apprentice, Cregg unjammed Captain Hawk's pistol when the pirate boarded the ship. This earned Cregg a spot on the crew, and prompted others to wish their captain had higher standards.

Comms

Communications covers both intra- and inter-ship. Members liaise with docking authorities, open communications with nearby ships, and monitor internal discussion. During combat, they also manage the cyber warfare suite, handling sensors and interfering with enemy ships.

It's unclear if Ishel's high brow is due to bone structure or the tautness of her ponytail. Her pristine appearance and rigid schedule convey her controlling nature, but she's mostly learned to avoid controlling others. Get on her good side, and she'll gladly help with any petty revenge you wish.
Formerly a docking manager at a high-class facility, she directed Captain Hawk to the best spot for a quick smash-and-grab. She requested a spot on the crew afterward.

Summary

Jay has never known the comfort of terra firma. Born a spacer, they've drifted between ships and jobs most of their life, each time taking on a new identity and new J-name. On board the Dragon's Daughter, they're known as Juliet.
Juliet is more interested in getting high and lounging around than doing hard work, even if it means others have to pick up the slack. Things tend to work out in the end anyways, so why stress about it?

Gunnery

The most exciting role during combat is also the least exciting out of combat. Those who typically have the thrill of firing the ship's weapons are tasked with finding other work between fights. Brady most commonly oversees this department and demands the guns be kept in pristine condition.

General

The remaining departments cover those that handle the day-to-day functioning of the ship. This includes vital specialists like provisioners, medics, and psions as well as those who are simply... there. On the Dragon's Daughter, specialists are few and far between, with many crew members filling in wherever there are gaps. During crises and combat, they end up helping other departments or dealing with various crises.

If you think Gavrel doesn't know what you brought onto the ship, yes he does. He's never let a legitimate request go unfilled, and will even find sources for illegitimate ones if they entertain him enough.
Despite his rank, he's more commonly seen with the crew than with other officers. Yet his laidback demeanor hides a simmering hatred for psions...

His real name is Juan Luis, but he liked the mispronunciation enough that he kept it around. When circumstances brought his once-rich family to financial ruin, he turned to piracy to support them.
He's charming, courteous, and idolizes the Captain Hawk he knows from the comics. Despite his heart of gold, he'll turn to violence in order to protect his friends and family.

Summary

Tired of college life, Vienna stowed away on the Dragon's Daughter IV when it made dock. Captain Hawk was so amused, he offered her a position despite Brady's protestations.
Bubbly and exuberant, Vienna hardly fits the picture of a pirate. She was assigned to the kitchen due to her exceptional skill with knives.

Such a great group of characters. I enjoyed reading the little snippets about each of them. It sounds like being in the crew is an adventure all by itself!

They were a fun crew to put together! I tried to make them distinct and memorable enough that it was easy to get into character when playing them :D

There is an in-universe comic series, and IRL they do feature in a podcast! Sadly no TV series though...
