Keona

Kaiea Keona

Hailing from the United Tribes of Meiratia, Kaiea Keona traveled to the eastern continent about twelve years ago to become a mercenary. Once the Rising occurred, she had ample opportunity to escape, but her unconventional Meiratian fighting meant she could handle the Risen. Realizing the money that rested in fighting against the Risen, she remained in East Veilinia and joined the Legion once it had enough money to satisfactorily pay her. She chose to go by her last name instead of her first to distance herself from those near her, especially knowing that they may die at any time.

Initially, she had no interest in taking students. This was for two reasons. First, most recruits coming in had Eastern Continent combat habits. She didn't want to go through the tedious work of undoing them, and she certainly wasn't going to teach it. Second, she felt it was the type of work for less in-demand members. Keona figured she had better things to do.

However, she still attended the Prospective Rookie Tournaments, as she found them entertaining and missions were on halt whenever they were held. Although entertaining, she never found herself particularly intrigued by the rookies, so she never took any of them in. This year, though, two caught her eye—and she'd have been surprised if only one had. These two are Elliot Jacques and Clare Nores.

Personal history

Keona comes from Meiratia, the tribes of which commit themselves to a nature-oriented, traditional way of life. She was born from two warriors, both of which were frequent representatives of their tribe in conflicts or territorial disputes. Naturally, she grew up being expected to do the same, and she had no issue with it. She preferred person-to-person combat over simply hunting or gathering, and she refused to do anything that involved cartography or politics. From the age of fourteen, she was fighting in the duels, and she very rarely lost even against opponents that greatly outsized her.

Once she was nineteen, Keona got bored. The tribes were growing more and more content with where their territories were, and the surrounding nations of Thetlia and Anitorh had long respected their boundaries. Battle disappeared from her homeland. Unsatisfied, she traveled to East Veilinia as a mercenary. There, she got to fight again in an ongoing conflict between Altonia and the Visismolian Principality. As a mercenary, she got a taste for money, and she especially liked that she was getting paid for what was basically her hobby. She quickly became very materialistic and would not do what did not bring value.

After two years, the conflict between Altonia and the Principality came to a halt as the Free City of Xocrin fell to the Risen. Keona continued her work as a mercenary but against the continent's invaders. After Visismolia fell, she continued to fight at any remaining forts or locations where people remained.

Four years later, the Legion got an official headquarters, soon named Vicrem, from the Maresian Federation. It received official state funding from Maresia and Wacu, and the Altonian empress promised that once the Legion reached Solhus, it could use two-thirds of the treasury to finance its push north. Consequently, the Legion was then able to pay its members. Keona joined immediately. Her skill was quickly acknowledged, and she was allowed to continue working mostly solo and apart from formations.

Employment

From a warrior in Meiratia to a mercenary in East Veilinia to a member of the Legion, Keona's trade has always been battle. She has fought her whole life, and her survival to date is evidence of her proficiency at fighting.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Keona does not fight for any noble purpose. She fights to fight and for money, and the helping is just a cute byproduct to her. She does care for the members she is acquainted with in the Legion, but she has long accepted that they will likely die.

Virtues & Personality perks

  • Light-hearted
  • Quick-minded
  • Energetic
  • Daring

Vices & Personality flaws

  • Materialistic
  • Can be impatient at times
  • Casually audacious to superiors

Social

Social Aptitude

Having grown up in a place that cares greatly for authority, Keona knows when being professional or formal matters. Still, her time as a mercenary makes her see any fighter as an equal, so she talks to everyone in the Legion the same unless for formalities. She is very self-confident, and most people's first impressions of her will likely stick as long as they know her. Thus, opinions about her are very mixed depending on the kind of person one prefers to be around. Keona is aware of this but doesn't really care and will talk to everyone the same regardless.

History

The two met as soon as Keona joined the Legion, though they only ever met on the battlefield in big missions. Once Addison became the Head of Legion, Keona ended up reporting to him, so they met much more often. Keona's over-friendly nature meant she had no issue with talking to him like a friend even though he suddenly outranked her, so their relationship didn't change much from this.

In fact, they likely got closer after Esirri's death, as Keona made sure that Addison wouldn't get too depressed over what happened.

Nicknames & Petnames

Keona calls Addison "Addy," not particularly affectionately or anything, but as a way to show that she has no interest in looking up at him. While most call him something along the lines of Head Ross, Keona will call him Addy anyplace and under any circumstances.

Wealth & Financial state

After she got used to the excess wealth she could have in East Veilinia, Keona hoarded more money than she needed. When she goes out to eat, she goes to expensive places, and she buys expensive weapons solely for display in her quarters.
