History
Dawn of the Dragon Gods
In Toriel's ancient past,
Alexstrasza, her brother Dralad, and her younger sister Ysera were the only three survivors of their clutch. Ysera was sick and smaller than average, and Alexstrasza watched out for her. However, Dralad died, his body found by Alexstrasza.
Like the other dragons of that era, Ysera would gather under the command of
Talonixa in response to the threat of
Sardior. Sardior, the first dragon, afflicted by a disease, grew stronger with every dragon he consumed.
She believed that peace could made with Sardior. When Ysera was given a chance to speak her idea of peace, Alexstrasza was worried about Talonixa's reaction. But when Ysera stood up to talk with Talonixa, treator used this occasion to join Sardior.
Malygos witness of the betrayal and subsequent devouring by Sardior, would return to the others only to find Ysera and Talonixa in conflict over the fate of those afflcited by the disease. Talonixa advocating that the infected would have to be quarantined or killed for the safety of everyone else.
Bahamut and
Feth'razaal grieving over the fate of their cherished first creation, found themselves unable to destroy him as they were too emotionally attached, the gods couldn't help the dragons.
In due
Time, Malygos found his way to Alexstrasza and Ysera. Malygos afflicted by the disease briefly succumbed to the hunger for flesh, attacked Ysera. However, thanks to Alexstrasza's intervention, Ysera managed to snap Malygos out of his frenzy. Subsequently, Malygos was cured through direct intervention by Bahamut, who bestowed upon him a blessing against the disease.
Alexstrasza, Ysera and Malygos joined with
Nozdormu and
Neltharion, two other powerful dragon, to hunt Sardior once and for all. Forcing him to retreat in a cavern were all five dragon, except for Ysera, began the battle against Sardior, who had grown larger and even more mutated than before.
With a flap of wings, Sardior called up a massive wind that scattered the fighters. Ysera suddenly appeared and Sardior attempted to devour her, but Neltharion silenced his laughter with a mighty blow, pulled Sardior to the ground and began to mercilessly beat him even as Sardior began mutating further.
In the battle, Sardior ripped Neltharion lower jaw, Malygos moved to save him, examining the bloody mess as Sardior roared in triumph and grew ever larger. This bolstered the fighter, that, in a final attempt to protect everything they held dear, and blessed by the two dragon gods, banished Sardior into the void.
After such a feat, the five dragons were blessed with godly power and agreed to protect Toriel. By channeling the power of the two dragon gods, they were able to ascend to godhood themselves.
Draconic Allies
late 4955 BD through 4946 BD
The demons, in their endless quest for conquest and battle, were pouring onto Toriel with an unstoppable bloodlust. the elves and humans uniting with other mortals such as dwarves and goblins. It was also the first
Time the mortal started to fight together against a common threat, knowing they stand little to no chance against the abyssal horde, they fought for their survival anyway.
But the regions corrupted by the demon grew with each passing months, forcing the dragons to join the battle.
With the corrupted regions growing, the
Dragon God congregated at the lair of
Alexstrasza to discuss the coming invasion and what part they should play in defending the world.
Neltharion proposed that to end the invasion of demons, the dragon gods should create a weapon with which they could eradicate the demon armies.
Neltharion then convinced
Malygos to help him with the other Dragon Gods. All the dragon god contributed a bit of their power in creating the
Dragon soul with the exception of Neltharion. Through the disk, Neltharion was able to magically take control of all other dragons, including the other four dragon gods.
Using the disk, the dragon gods strength shifted the war, and a large effort to push the demon back into the abyss started.
Battle of the Ironfang
late 4946 BD
This battle occurs as part of the larger effort to push into the heart of the Abyssal rift. The dragons launched an offensive to strike at the demon’s strategic strongholds along the rift’s borders. The Battle of the Ironfang is marked by brutal skirmishes and fierce confrontations against elite demon troops.
With the help of the dragon gods, the mortal armies took over the stronghold while the dragons battled the demons, marking an important victory for the inhabitants of the material plane as they gain ground near the abyssal rift.
Battle of Vexinoth
4945 BD
After the capture of the Ironfang stronghold, Neltharion saw the opportunity to complete his Dragon Soul. He first captured demons and added their powers to the Dragon Soul.
As a retaliation for their attack on Ironfang, the demon launched an assault on the draconic city of Vexinoth. The dragon gods and their dragon kind flew toward the demon armies to defend the draconic city, awaiting Neltharion's first attack as had the dragon soul. Channeling the dragon soul destructive power, thousands of demons died with one swing of radiant
Magic.
The dragon gods watched in horror as Neltharion also killed some of their kind and other allies along with the demons. Neltharion revealed the depths of his betrayal at last. Now, with the disc at his command, he wanted all races and the demons to see his power and to bow to him.
The dragon gods tried to stop Neltharion. Silver dragons surrounded Neltharion in an attempt to take the Dragon Soul from him. With a single command, they were engulfed by the magic of the Dragon Soul and were pulverized. Malygos was also terribly injured, both mentally and physically.
A swing of the Dragon Soul paralyzed all dragons and the dragon gods in mid-air, rendering them unable to move or speak. Neltharion then struck out at the dragon gods, scattering them far across the land. With the help of this power, he captured Alexstrasza.
With the gods scattered and both armies annihilated, demons swarmed in the ruin of the draconic cities, claiming it as their stronghold, a humiliation for the dragons and their allies.
Godless war
4945 BD through 4931 BD
Neltharion's betrayal struck a great blow to the Gods, and their fear of being destroyed or captured like Alexstrasza. In desperation, the Dragon Gods shielded themselves and hid to become undetected even by each other. Alexstrasza endured years of captivity under Neltharion's tyrannical rule, serving as his unwilling slave.
Ysera acted in the background, healing and rescuing the injured. Among those she healed was
Kueli, an adult golden dragon grievously wounded in battle. Kueli was deeply thankful to Ysera, who saved her life, and she later became a friend of the dragon god.
Alexstrasza's liberation
4931 BD
The demons succeeded in stealing the dragon soul from Neltharion's hoard. In a desperate bid to distract the demons and reclaim the artifact, Neltharion devised a plan to relocate Alexstrasza, intending to subject her to further torment once the artifact was recovered.
Fortunately, intervention from the other dragon gods led to Alexstrasza's liberation. Additionally, the dragon soul was wrested from both the demons and Neltharion by
Nozdormu.
In the
Highlanders Mountains, Alexstrasza confronted Neltharion. After several minutes of battle, Neltharion and Alexstrasza fell towards the ground, this event is said to be the cause of the formation of the
Insatiable Lake, clutched in each other's claws. Alexstrasza, exhausted and mortally injured, was found laying on the ground, while Neltharion fell out of sight beyond the crest of the mountain.
Neltharion’s claws descended, piercing Alexstrasza’s heart. The Goddess of Life cried out, a sound that echoed across the planes, her divine essence torn asunder. Miles away, in a serene glade untouched by the chaos, Ysera, staggered as an overwhelming wave of grief and power overtook her. She clutched her chest, her emerald eyes wide with realization. In that moment, the divine domain of Life passed to her, intertwining with her own dominion of Nature.
The conflict raged in the
Wasted cliff cliff, yet many dragons and
Giants from distant regions refused to engage, deeming their involvement unnecessary in what they viewed as a trivial dispute over mere resources.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when two renowned dragons fell into the clutches of the giants.
Caelestrasz, and
Merithra, demi-gods and children of the dragon gods who had saved their kin on numerous occasions, were captured.
Prior to this event, Ysera had abstained from involvement in the conflict, deeming it a wasteful expenditure of dragon lives. However, with their offspring abducted, they called upon their fellow dragons to join them in the fight.
This pivotal moment shifted the balance of the war, drawing nearly all dragons into the fray, even prompting direct intervention from the dragon gods themselves.
Draconium
After the horor of the war against the giants, Ysera decided to create a safe place for the dragons, far from the conflict of the material plane. She helped the dragon who attempted to transform the
Beastland, and with her help and their potent draconic magic, they permanently modified the chaotic good plane.
In 1136 AD, her old friend, Kueli also came to draconium, carrying a dragon egg, a hope for the futur of dragonkind.
