Characteristics
Mental traits
Stronmaus is a joyful god, prone to laughter and enjoy fellowship with his siblings. Stronmaus' image is in sharp contrast to how storm giants are perceived in the world: aloof and dour. Nonetheless, it is an accurate one.
Possessions
Stronmaus possess the Adze of Annam and Akmon, Hammer of Purphoros, artifacts and a tool he use in his forge.
Worship
All giants acknowledge Stronmaus’s place on the throne of the
Giant gods. They offer the required prayers and sacrifices (a scattering of fragrant herbs and incense on the wind each morning), but their prayers often sound more like a list of grievances than honest worship. His priests are drawn from giants who occupy high positions within the ordning of their kind, including wealthy cloud giants, strong frost giants, and accomplished stone giants. Being a priest of Stronmaus has no effect on a giant’s rank in the ordning; instead, it often makes the giant a target of resentment and complaints from other giants.
Lair
Stonmaus's Domain is on
Elysium, in the
Giants' Domain. Stronmaus stands in the Thunder forge, crafting artifact beyond comprehension.
History
Fire Below the Mountain
After the
Death of
Surtur at the hand of
Feth'razaal, Stronmaus gained craftmanship as part of his domains, and beneath a mountain, he labors day and night, forging whatever his heart desires. The results are priceless tools destined for feats of legend—the lucky few who have stumbled upon these relics note their bewilderingly high quality.
Despite the worship of the dwarves, Stronmaus never considered himself their patron. He would only give them curt nods or frowns when they offered up their work, and yet the dwarves accepted this and were determined to hone their craft. As a result, they came to create the finest tools, design the sturdiest structures, and brew the tastiest ales the world had ever beheld. Stronmaus secretly approved of the Dwarves' perseverance, and the fact that they were always looking to improve.
Family artifact
After the death of his brother, Surtur, Stronmaus set out to create artifact to protect each of his brothers.
Memnor feigning grief, asked for a dagger to honor his fallen brother, one to match the blade Surtur had once made for him. Stronmaus, wishing to ease his sorrow, agreed, forging the blade of broken mirror.
Trolls, Giants and Titans
The trolls reigned over Goria for six hundred years until Imperator
Molok attempted to deceive the giants of
Voninerike in 4520 BD. Molok amassed an army with the aim of challenging the Titans. His forces clashed against
Tromokratis and the
Hedroforn, ultimately perishing against these formidable monsters. Unaware of the trolls' freedom from the giants' influence, Tromokratis and the Hedroforn sought vengeance against the giants, sparking a conflict between the giants and the Titans.
As the giants mobilized their forces to confront the colossal adversaries, they found themselves outmatched by the Titans' might. The trolls, observing the Titans' progress, mustered a massive army and joined the fray, challenging the giants' dominion over the world.
Skoraeus, the god of stone giants, sought to dissuade his siblings from joining the conflict, believing that the matter of their creation should be left for them to resolve. However, Stronmaus argued that the titan's involvment was not to be resolved by mortals and refused to heed his counsel. To tip the scales in favor of the giants, the
Giant gods intervened:
Stronmaus, the god of storm giants, forged a hammer to empower his followers in battle against the Titans,
Jotun Hammer. The hammer's impact created the Hammerfall Crater, where the storm giants later erected the
Hammerfall CItadel. Bestowed with storm-related abilities and the power of levitation, the sentient hammer served alongside the storm giants against the Titans.
With the Titans defeated, the giants marched toward Goria,
Trolerike's capital and unleashed their fury. A roaring storm churned above the city as the ground groaned and trembled. Over several hours, lightning, fire, and earthquakes ravaged the city, bringing down every wall and building, sealing off the escape routes, and burning the ships in the harbor. When nothing but ash and rubble remained, the earth itself wrenched open like a giant maw to swallow Molok and the remains of his great city whole.
Untold thousands of trolls died that day; none were left alive by the giants. Only whispers of the event would reach the other Gorian cities and outposts, but those whispers would be enough to discourage any further tampering with the giants. The
Death of Molok marked the end of the Trolerike in 4507 BD.
As a final punishment for the trolls, Stronmaus cursed them with a debilitating curse, stripping them of their intellect and will, reducing them to mere toys of mortals.
But, in one catastrophic night, all they had accomplished was destroyed when Stronmaus battled with Valhir at the mountain's peak, for reasons no mortal could comprehend. The resultant cataclysm was a storm of fire and ash and lightning so intensely violent that it was seen ten horizons away. When the dust settled, the mountainous region was now home to a central lake, the land irrecoverably changed by this battle, and the dwarves had taken a heavy toll, their craft reduced to scattered scapes and cinders, and many of their people dead.
Dwarvish artifact
The Axe of the Dwarvish Lord was forged by Stronmaus during his time in the Ice-Peak Concord. He gifted the artifact to the dwarves, who hold it as a mark of divine favor.
Since then, the axe has passed from leader to leader, carried across generations as the symbol of their rule.
Battle of Life and death
3645 BD
After the
Battle of Life and Death and the fall of
Alexstrasza, Stronmaus forged a new artifact: the Armor of the Valiant Soul. It was made to shield
Ysera, for she too would one day stand against
Neltharion.
Neltharion, the dragon god of death, had been cast beyond time by
Nozdormu, the dragon god of time. Yet his return is certain, and when he rises again, the armor will guard Ysera from his fury.
Force Jewerly
3050 BD
A fine piece of jewelry, known as Bigby’s Magnificent Bracelet, was forged by
Stronmaus for
Malygos after the Nexus overflow. The artifact was made to help him control the
Weave and keep the Nexus stable.
Centuries later, when Malygos grew enamored with the human
Jaina Proudmoore, he gave her the bracelet as a token of his love. Jaina still wears it on her wrist.
Around 100 BD
The current capital of the
Hobgoblin empire, the Emperor’s Helm, is named for the massive palace at its center. The palace was crafted from a giant, thirty-foot-tall helm that
Ioa once dropped to shield the hobgoblins. This act took place at the start of their conquest south of the
Green earth, likely to protect the newly expanding
Hobgoblin forces from remnants of dragons and giants still resisting their advance.
The helm is a divine artifact, forged by Stronmaus, the god of craftsmanship. Stronmaus agreed to create it only because it was intended to serve
Ioa and safeguard the hobgoblins. The resulting artifact is a helm of perfect potential, serving as the throne and seat of Ioa’s divine authority.
Today, the Emperor’s Helm remains the heart of the Hobgoblin Empire. It is both a military stronghold and a symbol of Ioa’s protection, authority, and the divine origin of the empire itself.
As Ioa used the helm to protect his people, as requested by Stronmaus, he came back to obtain a new artifact, and Stronmaus forged a mace fit for the kings of kings, the Bloody End.
