The Pridelands

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
A rolling sea of golden grass and granite kopjes under Helios' unmoving noon, the Pridelands are Safwah's domain of just leadership, clean hunts, and communal strength. The Pridelands are said to be a vast savannah, dotted by groves of trees. Amidst one of these groves of trees is a permanent portal that connected the realm of Tarren Hills.

Customs and Pride-Law

Guest-Right at Water
Share water and a true name at a hole or river bend; hospitality and frank speech bind all parties until the next rain bell. Lies taste chalky and catch in the throat.
The Balanced Kill
Take what keeps the web intact, old, sick, cull for need and waste nothing. Trophy-slaughter sours the land until restitution is made.
Right to Flee, Right to Feed
Prey are granted clean lanes to bolt; predators are granted clean angles to strike. Ambush is craft; torment is taboo.
Art as Contract
Oaths painted in ochre, braided in grass, carved in bark, or drummed at the Chorus Flats quiet malice within earshot and stiffen resolve to keep the vow.
Lead from the Front
Judges and captains take the first watch, first charge, or first risk; authority without example is thin as paper in the sun.
Rites & Festivals
The Mane’s Blessing celebrates new life, courtship, and fertility; The Lion’s Roar marks Safwah’s birth/rebirth with a great hunt, communal feast, and the Rite of First Blooding for newborns.

Geography

Herd-roads score the savanna between fig-forests and acacia shade, while the blue ribbon of Oceanus widens into calm bends where prides water together under truce. Mortai, those wise faces in the clouds, sometimes take leonine aspect here, their rumbling thunder a counsel rather than a threat. Shrines are portable and practical: beadworked canopies, horn totems, and hide screens raised atop granite outcrops, then packed away when the herds move on. Justice is done in the open, hunts are art faced squarely, and leadership begins at the front of the charge.   In Eseesnce Safwah’s Pridelands embody strength without cruelty, order without oppression, and community without erasing the individual, a noon-bright testament that leadership is service, the hunt is balance, and every voice in the pride has its place.

Notable Locations

The Lion’s Bend ( A long, tranquil reach of the great river slows into reed-lagoons and salt-lick flats; treaty trees and truce stones line the banks, carved with paw, hoof, and hand.
Kopje Courts
Granite stacks bearing bead-canopies and hide screens form roaming open-air courts. When a pride lifts camp, the kopje keeps only ochre glyphs and a clean hearth-circle.
Baobab Gate-Hollows
Ancient trunks with naturally vaulted interiors; some seasonally open as tree-gates to Arvandor (luminous beeches), to Elysium (sequoia-feeling hollows), or to the Outlands’ Faunel. The destination follows the tree’s memory and the season’s song.
The Chorus Flats
Short-grass amphitheaters where roars carry for miles; law is sung and drummed here. Mortai sometimes answer with distant thunder as a sign the verdict holds.
Shade-Roads
Elevated driftways of woven root and deadfall branches let caravans move while herds pass untroubled below. They glow with foxfire after guest-right is sworn.
The Cubs’ Run
A ring of shallow pans and fig-groves left strictly for young and nursing; predators observe clean angles and no torment clauses here.
The Mane Circle
A broad kopje amphitheater ringed with lion-headed menhirs; lammasu convene here to seal range-wide compacts.
Hearth of Paw and Fang
A traveling school of shamans and rangers that teaches cubs and youths, of any folk, the arts of tracking, healing, and honorable huntcraft.
The Roaring Ford
A shallow Okyanus crossing where mortai often answer chorus; prides settle inter-range disputes here with witness from river wardens.
The Pride-Vault
A baobab hollow etched with bead-runes; when opened by shared testimony it reveals ancestral stories for mediation and judgment.

Travel and Portals

Tree-Gates
Baobab hollows rotate destinations by season and song. Silver-scarred beeches and lightning-bitten oaks tend to open toward Arvandor; immense sequoias favor Elysium; other marked hollows to Faunal in the Outlands.
Overthreads to Brux
One-way acacia arches, vine tunnels, and cliff paths slip travelers into permanent dusk for rest, storytelling, or star-less night hunts; a different seam brings you home.
River Road
Long, honest reaches of Okyanus act like a gentle planar current; keep guest-right and you can pole farther in a day than effort explains.
Pride-Paths
Raised shade-roads sometimes braid toward Grove of the Unicorns when the Grove opens its Heart-Oak; these passages prefer escorts traveling for healing, adoption, or rewilding.

Inhabitants

Visitors include river-wardens from Okyanus other reaches, Centaurs trading grazing wisdom, and envoys from Grove of the Unicorns via seasonal tree-gates.
Petitioners of the Pride
Leonin, Tabaxi, wemics, and beast-kin whose lives centered on guardianship, teaching, and righteous hunts. They steward watering-rights, migration pacts, and rite-roads between kopjes.
Azata and Agathion
Bralani arbiters of the chase; lillends who keep song-law; lion, raptor, and elephant-hearted agathions who enforce guest-right and escort the lost.
Lammasu Elders
The Mane Guarg, revered counselors and wardens of sky-approaches—roost on high kopjes and adjudicate oaths that bind whole ranges.
Mortai Sun-Lions
Rare noon-tower clouds that speak when they choose; they can still a grassfire wind or call a rainline, never in service of cruelty.
The Pride of Safwah
Judges, teachers, constables, and crusaders who lead from the front; their shrines are portable, their law public.

Localized Phenomena

The Helios Sun casts a wavering shimmer across high ground, bending distance and angle until even the keenest hunter can be fooled; seasoned travelers know to rest at zenith and move only in the shoulder-hours of shadow.   The Territory Chorus breaks at dawn-by-rain, when rippling calls carry across the biomes; those who ignore the song risk trespass and find themselves challenged at the next kopje. Stampede Weather rises with heatbanks that shake the plains into thunderherds; panic ensures trampling, but a steady stance lets the wave pass clean.   Mortai Intercession meets false witness at the Chorus Flats with a double peal, the roar of every lion and the boom of an anvil and only truer words may follow. When balance is broken through overhunting or reckless grazing, the land itself answers with Balance’s Reproof: waterholes wander, fruit ripens just out of reach, and scavengers haunt every step until restitution is made.   With Huntsense, divinations that track spoor, read wind, or test the truth of trails ring clearer, while glamers that excuse cruelty unravel. Way-Quiet grants steadiness to those who weave minor magics while stalking, mapping, teaching, or tending, their work seen by others as part of the day’s rhythm.   Pride-Rally enhances spells of courage and coordination, carrying further when invoked openly to defend the weak or safeguard the pride. Through Okyanus’ Favor, those who aid the stranded or cast lines to the lost find their next ford, climb, or canopy run longer-legged than their effort explains.   The Guest-Right Boon lingers on oaths sung or drummed beside water, binding messages, protections, and safe-conduct until the next precipitation bell. At last, Undeath Refused ensures necromancy that steals life or soul falters, coercive bindings strain, and only rites of rest find gentle blessing.

History

The Pridelands were created in the aftermath of The Gods War, with Safwah having created the permanent portal that connected the divine realm to his longstanding territory on the Prime Material, the Tarren Hills.
Trait Type
Description
Gravity Normal.
Time Normal.
Shape & Size An infinite savanna preserve within Krigala, with soft, migratory boundaries. Invisible “overthreads” slip travelers into Brux's dusk bands beneath acacia arches or kopje passes; return seams are common but never the same path twice.
Morphic Traits Mildly sentient and alignment-tuned: landscapes nudge toward balance. Ethical hunts and defended young see paths shorten and cover present itself; wasteful slaughter finds waterholes “walk” and routes meander. Weather control resists heavy-handed magic and instead answers to chorus, drums, and mortai counsel.
Elemental Energy None Dominant
Alignment Good, Mildly Lawful.
Magic Works that protect beasts, track fairly, heal, rally, or bind communities are enhanced. While necromancy that harms life, coercive fear, and domination magics are impeded. Weather-working favors song-led coordination rather than solitary control.
