Gulliver Hall

Willowmoor's town hall and service center, Gulliver Hall stands out as the central gathering place for the whole village. Named for one of the original founders who died before even reaching the future site of the settlement, it's a symbol of community sacrifice for those who know their history.

Purpose / Function

When Gulliver Hall was built, it was meant to be a sort of community center where residents could gather to meet one another or hear important announcements from the town leadership.

As the decades pass, it will grow and become the main fixture of the Willowmoor business district.

Design

Gulliver Hall is quite plain for a long time, its wooden walls holding only screeds pertaining to the community. When one walks inside, they'll find themselves in a large, long room; at the back, two smaller rooms are tucked away.

Entries

There is one large main entrance that first stands as a wide doorway until the double doors are affixed. There is also a smaller and more discreet back entrance that the leadership will primarily use to enter the building.

Sensory & Appearance

When Gulliver Hall was originally built, it was sorely lacking in proper windows, just a few holes near the ceiling offering fresh air. It was a dark, cramped, often smelly place when the community gathered in there during that time.

When proper windows were eventually added, spaced evenly along the two long sides while the shorter sides held two windows each, the room was transformed into an open, airy place, though a lot of the smells would remain until it could be properly insulated much, much later.

Denizens

While no one lives in Gulliver Hall, it's the most likely place for one to find Isabelle, who eventually takes the job of sitting behind the welcome desk.

Contents & Furnishings

The welcome desk near the entrance will eventually be joined by an assortment of hand-built chairs. A plaque on the desk memorializes the Gulliver the hall is named in honor of.

In the identical smaller rooms, there will be a table and chairs, paper and pencils, and a bucket in the corner for collecting trash.

Special Properties

Because Gulliver Hall becomes the place where announcements and press conferences are held, speakers will eventually be rigged up to the outside of the building so that those who can't fit inside can still hear what's going on.

Architecture

The original style of the building was that of a longhouse - rectangular with an empty center for gatherings and two small rooms in the back for smaller meetings.

During Willowmoor's renaissance, it will be renovated with stone and receive decorative statues as well.

History

When the village of Willowmoor was being built, there was one large space in the forefront of the business district where the community had been gathering for months while buildings went up all around them. When all the buildings were finished, attention could finally be turned to that space, which leadership adamantly wanted to keep for community gathering. They brainstormed various ideas, eventually taking them to the whole community for a vote, and a "community lodge" was the winner. The very next day, construction began on what would eventually become Gulliver Hall.

In its early days, a majority of the village's adults could fit inside the hall for the press conferences or announcements the leaders held there. The elected would also hold their own meetings there, using one or both of the back rooms for privacy. If the large space inside was not being used, villagers could come by to leave suggestions or questions with Isabelle, who dealt with them if she could and passed them off to the leadership if she couldn't.

As time passes, Gulliver Hall will become one of the primary rendezvous spots in town, as well as the spot where events of all types take place - from joyous weddings to mournful funerals to even public punishments.
