C.J.

CJ is stocky and he's always kept himself in reasonable shape, so he wasn't bad off when he arrived at The Arena. When food portions tightened in the arena and on the road, he lost some weight that he regained after arriving in Willowmoor.

CJ is almost never seen without his faded Red Sox cap, which he always wears the correct way with the brim facing forward, thank you very much.

CJ typically wears jeans and a tee shirt with a red hoodie, Nike sneakers, and his trademark Red Sox cap.

CJ was born in the Before Times, so not much is known about his life before the bombs dropped. He wasn't serious about his job, spending a lot more time either fishing or spinning records (he had hoped to be a professional DJ one day). He and Rex grew up on the same street and have remained best friends since they were adolescents.

CJ didn't care one way or another about boys or girls until he was about 10 years old. That was when he started to notice he didn't like girls the way his friends did. By the time he was 12, he knew what it meant to be gay and that he probably was. He's kept his sexuality secret for most of his life, though, dating women publicly and presenting as a stereotypical straight man.

CJ has some repressed trauma simply from growing up as a gay kid in 21st century America. When he and Rex are looking for shelter after the bombs drop, they come across some assholes who attack Rex for "looking" gay; even though CJ is not hurt in the encounter, he is traumatized by it. It will manifest in his unwillingness to let Rex go into any potentially dangerous situation in the future.

CJ has pretty simple morals: do unto others as you would have done unto you, but if they disrespect you or someone you love, knock their lights out.

Like many of the survivors, CJ is motivated by a desire to return to some form of normal so that he can continue to live his life. Tied into that is his motivation for Rex to be healthy and happy.

CJ is good at fishing and being rowdy.

He can be impetuous and he doesn't do nuance.

CJ joined the Advisory Council, then when it dissolved, the Caravan Conclave. He will continue to serve in various leadership roles after Willowmoor is built.

CJ comes to the arena with his childhood best friend, Rex. The two have had a romantic relationship that they've kept secret for years, and they won't immediately show themselves to their new community either.

CJ has never given any religion a close look, nor has he thought much about whether there's a god. He would tell you he's an atheist if you ask, and then he would want to change the subject to something else.

CJ likes spinning records, fishing, and shooting hoops. His wealth of knowledge about North American fish will come in handy on the road.

He has no pets.
