Ordo Elementorum
"The Guild of Elementalists", "The Grand Conspiracy"
"I serve the Order of the world, the flow of the river, the brushing of the wind. I call upon fire to warm the hearts of my people, and upon the soil to turn so that crops may grow. My wrath is that of nature, my anger is still and waiting. I am one with the Order, I am in balance with all things."- Proclamation of Arcane Fealty.
Foundation
Humanity had long spent its decades fractured, nestled into clans, scattered across the continent and clinging to their enclaves. Countries built around places of elemental power, formed from the undying corpses of dead gods, waged war with one another in spite of the cataclysmic forces that raged around them.
As kingdoms rose and fell, and the natures of power fluctuated from one tribe to another, a secret organisation of mages and warriors came together, to maintain power to move and pull the strings of power from the shadows: the Order of the Elements.
Structure
The Order of the Elements's structure was simple. Out of the many members and representatives of every tribe, a grandmaster would be elected for each element. Grandmasters would dictate the manner of the Order's operations, and make rulings on internal matters, such as any disputes or divides within the Order.
Put simply, the Order had members from all tribes: Hàlogi, Eostre, Màni, Ilmari, Boann and Dànu. Members could usually wield the element associated with their ehtnicity (sometimes two, or very rarely a different one). Those who wielded a single element fell under the tutelage and guidance of their Grandmaster. I.E: The Grandmaster of Rivers would dictate the matters and methods of the water mages of the Order, the Grandmaster of Rock would do the same for the earth mages, etc.
Typically, there are two ways to be elected Grandmaster. Either the current tenant of the position chooses many members as their heirs, or in the absence of an heir the whole of the Order votes on a member that they believe would be a just fit for the role. Furthermore, they can also discuss the possibility of an outsider being voted in as Grandmaster of an element, should they believe this individual possesses the skills and personality to befit this role.
Public Agenda
"Hereby do I swear to serve the Order all my life, to seek truth in all things, to protect my country, my king and its people. I make it my life's work to search for knowledge, to keep balance in all my endeavours and all things I hold dear, to embody honor in body heart and soul. I shall shelter the meek, nourish the hungry, teach the curious and shield the innocent. I shall defend the Gods' resting places, work their anger and spells for the betterment of all, and maintain nature's equilibrium above all other things."- Proclamation of Arcane Fealty
Public: In public, the Order emphasised diplomacy, ethics and political aid. It was their duty to maintain the peace between kingdoms, and ensure that violence and conflict came to a minimum. Mages of the Order would often serve as diplomats, or set up relief posts to aid victims of wars, raids and disease.
Private: Whilst their public efforts were mostly humanitarian, in the shadows it was not uncommon for the Order to make use of more deceitful methods in order to achieve their goals. Assassination, blackmail and kidnappings were often used to take care of up and coming threats to the balance of the world, within and without.
Disbandment
The Order of the Elements tore itself apart, as the Legion of the Harbinger and the Church of the Redeemer gained traction with the other nations, and divided the Coalition into two factions. The mages that ran the Order were turned on each other, hunted each other down and sold each other out to the two greater factions.
With each member of the Order stepping away for personal reasons, for their own safety or to better serve their country, the Order quickly became disbanded. Some of the members and one of the grandmasters who were in the presence of the Church at the time were hunted down, executed and had their heads paraded through the streets of Granmoot
