Duchy of Newhamshire
Nearly a thousand years ago, Roderick Weston established the city of Rodchester on the banks of the Dunkel River, along with his brother Hunter. He and Hunter were close, being born only a year apart they had shared much of their lives together. Yet Roderick was none so pleased when he learned they had been sharing his wife. After catching Hunter and Duchess Elizabeth in bed together, he exiled them both from Rodchester. And so, they both fled to the southern coast of Altesland, where, with the aid of their personal guards and the locals, they built the city of Newham, establishing House Hunterson and the Duchy of Newhamshire.
However, Newhamshire soon found itself under Weston control during the Leudran Unitary Wars. After a long fourth decade of warfare, House Hunterson was wiped out during the climatic Battle of Florence's Gate. Now a cadet branch of House Weston, House Joshen rule over Newhamshire.
Structure
The Duchy of Ostenshire is ruled by the duke or duchess of House Joshen. The duke is aided in their rule by their spouse and their Castellan (a form of advisor). Duke's and duchess' have less control of their land as they once did, with the King and Parliament having absolute authority over them, however, they still have direct authority over much of their realm.
Foreign Relations
Newhamshire has an intense rivalry with the neighboring Duchy of Ostenshire. This rivalry began almost a thousand years ago when the founder of Ostenshire, Duke Roderick Weston discovered his brother Hunter, in bed with his beloved wife, exiling him from the duchy. Hunter in turn established House Hunterson and built the city of Newham on the southern coast of Altesland.
