Abbey of the Deep Cup

The Abbey of the Deep Cup is a small monestary west of Cricklebend. With Cricklebend, being one of the three villages in the Les Trois Demi Tasse region of Aquataine Kinari.

Notable Facilities

The abbey has many buildings, facilities, and constructions. Some of the more notable ones are presented here.

Abbot's Cottage

The Abbot has a small cottage that serves as an office, small chapel, and personal living space (better than the cells of the monks, but still fairly spartan).

Cell Dormatory

Within the quiet walls of the abbey, the monks’ dormitory lies remote but nearby the cloister, set apart from the bustle of the outer world. It is a long, vaulted hall, simple and spare, wherein each monk has his allotted space or cellula—not in the sense of a separate chamber, but rather a small portion of the common dormitory marked by a wooden partition or curtain. Each space holds but the barest necessities: a pallet or mattress stuffed with straw, a coarse blanket, and perhaps a small chest for the monk’s habit and tools for writing or craftwork, when appropriate.
The dormitory is arranged so that all may rise together in the still watches of the night when the bell summons them to the Night Office (Matins). A paved path known as the night path leads directly from the dormitory to the sanctuary, allowing the brethren to pass swiftly and silently to their prayers. Windows, small and high, let in a modest light by day, but it is the order of life that governs this space, not comfort. The Grange of Greenlight teaches that the dormitory must foster humility, simplicity, and vigilance, for even in sleep, the monk remains a servant of Stuteg, ever ready to rise at the needed hour.

Cemetary

The order maintains a small cemetary for final disposition of the brothers and sisters.

Chapel

The primary worship center for the members of the abbey.

Garden

Beyond the fields the grow grains for distallation, the brothers of the Grange of Greenlight maintain a manicured and diverse herbal garden,

Infirmary

A spartan, but sufficient medical center exists for both care of the brotherhood and care for the locals as recources permit.

Kitchen

A small but adequate facility for feeding many people at the same time.

Servant Quarters

A multiroom building with rooms for the servants of the abbey, privy, kitchen, and cleaning.

The Tradesmen Compound

A small cluster of buildings set aside for skilled craftsmen necessary for the smooth operation of the abbey. A smithy, cooper, wheelwright, weaver, and a few other trades are represented.

Distillary and Warehouse

A pair of buildings where Stuteg's Sap is distilled, aged, and stored.

Architecture

Most of the buildings are a combination of wood and rough stone. The roofs of more important buildings are slate shingles while the non-critical buildings are thatch roofed.

Defenses

The abbey is surrounded by 10' worked stone wall, more of a fence actually. While not capable of withstanding any kind of seige weapons, it does form a substantial barrier to medium sized creatures and smaller. The top of the wall is adorned with spikes to discourage climbing and crossing.
