The Cradle

The only home we have now

The Planet The Great Tree's story takes place on

The vast majority of what will be discussed here dear reader, isn't known to much of the world's inhabitants, save for landmarks, and natural resources. The only ones who do know scraps of the history are the Wayfare Guild and the whole story is only known to The Elsewhere, and the The Shadows. This planet was a battlefield, and could one day become one again. It is a graveyard, a sanctuary, a place to remember, but it is also a the only place left in the wake of the The War of the Shadows. The greed, hubris, and ignorance of the shadows damned them to have only a single habitable planet left to them. While the other billions of billions of planets are still there, they have become The Burned.

History

The first planet built by The Great Mother, Vilorlith, the home world where she birthed her children, Brownies into this world. Created quite near the beginning, when the Great Quartet first began to sing their Songs. A jewel in the heavens to grace the skies, filled with the symphony of song by her children and her children's children.

Though, Edin and it's gardens hide a darkness that not even the Greatest of the god's and their Children could have understood. A fifth brother, a needed element, a vector of change. The silhouette in the haze of the misty gardens. Here this fifth brother; on this planet, in this garden, enamored with the beauty the Quartet had built, and infatuated with everything they had made. Made a mistake, his actions caused the first known case of Shadow Touched Children, leading to the poor soul's death at the hands of her own Mother.

In her fury, Vilorlith ripped this fifth brother into eight unequal pieces and cast his corpse to boundaries past creation. This Original Shadow would resurrect itself in the form of The Shadows. Eight, indescribable abominations, unknowable save for their names, save for the thoughts that built them, save for the gods themselves who knew full well what these creatures were in the end.

However, the Cradle was the seat of mighty civilization, a society shared among the other three divine Children. The Children of Syn, the Children of Alnya, the Children of Kyln. The Brownies home world was considered one of the most beautiful planets that had even been crafted by the loving hands of the Quartet, made even more so by the dauntless dedication of the Children Of Vilorlith. They enjoyed unprecedented prosperity, thrived beyond what the gods had anticipated. Her children rising to heights that rivaled herself. The one wish the gods truly wanted.
Rose here did Rythia, First Child of Vilorlith, who brought her people past the boundaries of her planet, past the boundaries of her galaxies with the aid of the Taneth The Navigator. Spread from her wake the full might and arcane understanding of the Brownies. Her vision matching what Vilorlith had pictured, rising to godhood to simply sit by her Mother's side.

Alas, despite the gods efforts, nothing can withstand the unintended consequences of choices made in malaise of grief. The Shadows had returned, and targeted the Brownies with a hatred unfathomable. Their home world became the one battlefield to first be fought on, and the last to fall. In the end, it fell. SO too did all the worlds the Quartet created, in The last act of Syn she took her revenge on the Shadows and left them with only the most war-torn planet.

When Vilorlith fell in the Brownies Citadel, this became the home for the surviving Brownies in the wake of the Dawn of Truths. To brood among the skulls of their fallen family, the Goblins of the Skullbrood Clan, rose.

From the ashes of Edin, from the new world arose, broken. Lost, and alone save for the ones who had caused all this grief. The Shadows acted quickly to save the last piece of Namix left to them, and reshaped the world to allow the survivors a chance to rise again. Though, good deeds rarely come without strings attached...
