The Gloamwood || WorldEmber 2025 Prep Part 2
I pulled my friends into this as accountability buddies >:3
I decided to start a second article to continue my WorldEmber homework. This time I'll be highlighting core information I need to work on in preparation for my WorldEmber focus, reviewing my visuals and introducing my friends who kindly agreed to be my accountability buddies! Also, cats.
Review your World Primer Article
This introductory article has existed for a while, acting as an introduction to the core information that my world was initially built around and even featuring a hypothetical blurb for the book I want to write in this setting! As I write and flesh out my core articles, links to those will be added to this page too.
Find an Accountability Buddy
I have four, does that count?
As lovely as the WorldAnvil discord server has been so far, I also want to introduce the friends that have been with me since pretty much day one of this world, the associated book and its initial concepts. I first met these guys through the fandom discord for an old but well-loved cartoon series (that has also inspired much of the lore you'll find here), and I can genuinely say that I don't think I'd be where I am without them.
Grimm, Artie, Vibes and Panda (who doesn't have a WA) have been my biggest supporters for my creative work. We've written a lot together in the time that we've known each other, they have seen my cringe moments, and they've also got their own creative projects in the works too! I can and will show off their contributions to this world at any opportunity.
Free Space!
I know this spot was intended for people to add extra info on how they keep themselves going to meet their goal, but...
Meet the 3 patron gods of my existence! My cats Scout (the floofy old lady), Orca (moustache queen) and Kiwi (precious voidling) are my wonderful fur babies and I'd do anything for them. They like to fight for my lap and will force me to sit very very still until they're ready to set me free. It's the perfect time to work on lore!
Review Your World's Visual Appearance
I'm pretty happy with how the world looks at the moment, the Eldritch Horror guild theme suits the vibe of the Gloamwood pretty well, I like the fonts it uses, and I found some free stock images on Pixabay to use as temporary page backgrounds and headers to sell the forest theme.
In the future I'd like to draw up my own images to use across the world, or even commission someone to do them. For the time being though, my focus is on the written portions of the world.
Re-Read your Core Articles
Disclaimer: I don't really have any full 'core articles' written up. While development of my lore has been an ongoing project for a while now, transferring it over to this WorldAnvil is a recent endeavour. My plan during November is to get the essential information written down here before expanding upon it in WorldEmber.
Core - Crystal EnergyCore - Peaks
Core - Gods & Nature
Core - Channelling Magic
Core - Conduits/Champions/Demigods
I'll be adding to this list of articles throughout the month:
What Adjectives Describe your World?
Because of the divide between the natural world and the 'civilised' world in the Gloamwood, I found it prudent to put together separate adjective lists. These are not exhaustive and will be added to over time.
Natural Environments
Dark, maze-like, entangling, consuming, open sky, chaotic.
Nature is its own form of chaos. Much like real life it is impossible to truly contain and adhere to some form of order. Especially where the titular 'Wood is concerned, it is an ever-present force that feels and exists like some sort of living being. It is not to be trifled with, though many are foolish enough to try.
Civilisations
Industrial fantasy, mechanical, steam, developing, expanding.
Go for a Walk
I live close to a river that I like to walk along when I need to get some air and think. There's a forested area along one side of it with its own footpaths, so if I need some variety I go down those. Really helps me loosen up to write later in the day.
That'll be it for this portion of the homework. Over the rest of the month I plan on doing research, putting together diagrams and some art related to my planned articles, and finishing off my to-do list.
