A Basic Synopsis of Gloamwood
The Gloamwood is a world where, instead of oceans, trees coat the earth. A great, ancient forests that gets deeper and deeper the further you travel into them, where the trees get taller and the beasts grow greater with every step you take.
Civilisation exists atop great mountains, which at their core are geodes. The crystals within these geodes are the source of much of the world's magic, or at least the magic that most mortal men are capable of utilising in their day to day lives. Each peak is considered its own kingdom, and cultures vary from peak to peak.
Currently, the world we spend most of our time in is caught up in a war between two sides. On one side, we have the Knights of Clear Skies and on the other, we have the (placeholder name: Tempest Alliance).
Flight is the only reliable way to travel between Peaks. Many of this world's beasts are capable of it in some form or another, and technology has progressed to the invention of flying vehicles: airships, jet-like vehicles that function like flying motorcycles, floating ferries, etc.
Gods exist as great eldritch forces, embodying multiple aspects of the world in a paradoxical loop of "without me, this will not exist, and without this, I will not exist". They observe the world from afar, unable to come too close lest they cause great destruction.
'Conduit' is the name given to immortal beings who are capable of channelling the elements directly from their eldritch. They are akin to demigods and are made, not born. Conduits have faded into myth in the last millennium, though many cultures still revere them as founders of their kingdoms if not outright deifying them. Some still wander the world, but keep their identities a secret for one reason or another.
Above the Gloamwood story concept:
Magic is dying, and it's taking the rest of the world with it.
In a world where demigods are made, not born, Attica Gryphus is a student of one of the last Conduits. Meanwhile, her brother is leading a war for territory that's slowly dwindling.
Her brother is dying. It's slow and silent, and he doesn't know that she knows. He also doesn't know that Attica has resolved to find a way to save him no matter what. Even if that means running away with the enemy during her search for a solution.
Erebus says she's supposed to help save the world.
Shouldn't she be able to save Achilles too?
Yes, all of this is built up from my Storm Hawks lore and yes, I'm still working out names and other such details. Whoops.
