Son of the Mountain, Daughter of the Wave

History

The two Greater Dwarven Clans have only once been in open conflict and this was during the The War between Stone and Wave . And while there has been moments of tension born of competition the two clans largely stay out of each other's way. But, over the centuries, a certain amount of mutual support has come about. The normal situations are where a dwarf of one clan is in conflict with a nondwarf. A last vestige of when the dwarves were all United would surface and the dwarf would soon find support from other dwarves, whether from their clan or not. All that would be said upon the event's conclusion was Son of the Mountain, Daughter of the Wave.

Two such moments are the most remembered. In 342 PG the entourage of the Clan Master of Clan Stoneborn , Fron Stoneborn, was attacked while traveling along the coast. Their movement had been betrayed to a group of pirates. Many dwarves were slain before the Pirates were driven off. The Clan Master had been knocked unconscious but lived. The attackers had been the diversion, looting the wagons of valuables as well as taking any weapons off of felled dwarves. One such weapon was The Mountain's Master , the symbol of office for the Clan Master. Fron was livid and placed a kingly ransom for the weapons return. The Clan Mistress of Clan Waverider , Hilde, learned of the affront to all dwarfdom. She personally led the armada that tracked down the pirates who perpetuated the theft and fell upon them like the wrath of a vengeful god. When the battle was done every single pirate had been slain and Hilde, known from that day as Reaverbane, held The Mountain's Master. She delivered it to Fron Stonborn. When the Clan Master attempted to pay her the ransom she declined, saying only. "Son of the Mountain, Daughter of the Wave."

In 524 GR Naval forces of Ginfel sacked two communities of Clan Waverider without provocation, slaying every inhabitant. Clan Waverider declared war upon Ginfel. While the Clan could match their Navy they had very little ground troops beyond those who defended their communities and cities. The Clan Mistress received a missive from Clan Stoneborn that declared 10,000 dwarven warriors were en route to the closet port, ready to serve under Clan Waverider until victory was achieved. It was signed. "Son of the Mountain, Daughter of the Wave."
