Upon the Death of a Clan Mistress the Council of Every Clan Friherrinas assembles. They nominate and vote until a minimum three quarter majority is achieved.

As the ruler of one of two Greater Clans of the Dwarves the Clan Mistress of Clan Waverider had access to vast wealth and resources. The political power her position brought was also of great consideration given the sea power the Clan commanded.

Ceremonial garb consists of the sable Mantle of the Mistress over sharkskin armor with Xora's Edge, their Badge of Office at their side.

The outcome of the Great Split was the entirety of the Dwarves dividing into two Greater Clans. The traditional and patriarchal Clan Stoneborn and the naval minded and Matriarchal Clan Waverider. All lesser clans and communities chose which of the two Greater Clans they would fall under. Each greater clan was given the right to chose their own leader in their own manner. Clan Waverider came together and elected Xora Hullsmasher to serve as the first Clan Mistress.

It was Xora who put into Clan Law how a new Clan Mistress would be selected. The Lesser clans were organized and Clan Friherrinas appointed above them. When Xora died at sea her magic cutlass, Xora's Edge, was brought back and presented to the next Clan Mistress at the request of Xora's eldest daughter. Clan histories record her words. "Let my mother's sword ever be a defense for Clan she loved and bane for those who threatened her Clan." Xora's Edge has been the symbol of office for the Clan Mistress
