Archer Hewett

After working in the corporate world for years as a marine and then a troubleshooter on various battlefields and in several operations, Archer found himself in chaos during the Fall. First taken off an op to be sent to a war that made no sense against an allied corp turned rival, then cut off as the TITANs arose, he began to take a different view of the tactics of corporations and how they used their men. Before that, he was purely a company man, but that cut off and time in the resistance and recovery efforts during and after the Fall taught him that blind obedience was not the virtue that his training had taught him.   But the reality of things were he was not an anarchist, and not a frontier person, so that became muddled as he drifted back into work for Direct Action. He did carry some of that with him in that he viewed the larger picture with much more clarity, and saw how his men were used up for questionable goals. His objective became not just to fulfill his orders, but to preserve the men under him too. This made his men more efficient and more willing to do their best for him, but stifled his position - the rapid ascent he'd been experiencing before the Fall was cut short. That is... until Jamy Cooker came with an offer. He didn't know how she'd pull it off- he'd pissed off superiors a bit too much, unwilling to put their lives at risk for anything but the objective, and declining to participate in the internecine struggles in a corporate environment. But somehow she did, and he found himself free to lead his own unit, something that had a vanishingly small chance of happening.   As Station head of the contract on Prospect, he teaches his men to deescalate rather than over respond, and to have empathy for those they police and for the officers on station that they train. He's been very effective in the role. However, he sees a few things that make him want to move on as soon as possible. First, the station is a powder keg, especially with the other corps moving in. There's a struggle here that he can't see, and it doesn't make him confortable. Second, he's had to fill the ranks with people he doesn't know. He's managed it so far, but it does mean that they react in ways that he doesn't expect. Third, his employer isn't being completely honest about why they're here. He knows why she didn't want him to bring people he knew and had experience with- and he can respect the move, even as he distrusts it. But he also knows that she wants the contract to be successful.   All said, the station is ready to blow up in his face, and he has to continue to walk the tightrope until he can train the locals so they can end the contract.

History

Archer had never served with Max before this posting. Other than Barstowe, he'd not served with any under him to Jamy's specifications. However, professionally they knew of each other. Max knew that Archer was said to be someone that got things done, similar to him, but was always short of a promotion. Seeing has he made his way to his own posting, Barstowe came into this wanting to show him his capabilities, hoping that he'd recommend him for the same.   He's found everything about Archer as described. Cool under fire, tactically gifted, fair to those that serve under him, loyal to his men's needs, and competent in his job. However, he's not been able to get that spot to show him everything he's capable of, because of his Adjutant, Barstowe. He's not in the chain-of-command, but reports directly to Archer, like the manservants of old. He's in the position that Max should be in, and it eats at him, though he tries not to show it and do his job to the best of his ability.   Doing his job is really easy, it turns out, as Archer did pick a great team. He just wishes he was able to do more...

History

Unlike most Account Execs, Jamy's position and influence allow her to somewhat tailor her teams to the contract that she is signing. In general, she chooses a commander that she can trust, and allows them to craft their team for the assignment.   Archer was a good soldier that had not had a chance to lead. Much of it was because he was good enough that his commander's kept him from taking lead, though his troops all looked to him. She was able to negotiate to get him, and told him to craft his team- he could choose one comrade that he'd worked with, but the others had to be chosen from elsewhere. He could see the reasons behind it, and it made him respect her more for the choice.   They've had a good working relationship, but he is curious as to her reasons behind coming to Prospect.

History

Barstowe and Archer served together in the brush wars before the fall, and during the bad years during the fall in the resistance against transhuman and TITAN, enduring horrors together than they never speak of. During that time, Archer saved Barstowe's life. Not in the way that soldiers had their backs, but something intensely personal that they never speak of. The remnant of that is a bond that hasn't since been broken, and a sense of loyalty. Barstowe knows that though he has more experience, that Archer is the more adept of the two, and follows him in everything, putting his opinions and morals above his own. He's a simple man, one that has his boss's back, fully trusts him, and will do anything for him.

History

When Vastil heard that there was a merc company coming to the station, he was already predisposed against them. After all, he's the security lead for the station, and this was a direct affront to his capabilities, nevermind that he was out of his depth. He wants the Mercs off his station, and working with them is the best way to do that.   As contractors do, Archer just wants to get this one done for a paycheck and a good mark on his record for his first posting. He sees Vastil as a necessary evil. Though Vastil doesn't believe it, Archer wants this to go well and to be able to turn the station back over to him, so he can get a more cushy posting closer to the core, or even better in Sol. He's determined to make things safe here and make Vastil competent- or make his successor even more competent.
