The route
Gamblers take the path connecting Amthal with Pineslope , going straight through Roth with a stop in Rothaven . Roth is by far the most dangerous place in Central civilisation , with many creatures actively preying on humans. Another risk is the illness "Rothead", where one loses his humanity and turns into a dangerous creature, a Ghoul , himself.
Timing is very important as making the crossing through the mist is deemed suicide. A few days every month, dependant on the moons, the fog grows thinner for a few days, making the trip safer. During these days gamblers are able to enter or leave Roth, but there will always be risk. When this period is over, they have untill the next clearing to sell- and buy new goods.
The route has to be done on foot, as horses can not climb the rocky slopes necessary to enter Roth. Donkeys can be used, but they have to be blindfolded and muzzled with a special kind of herbs in order to be willing to enter the foul swamp, which requires special training.
The goods
Most gamblers mostly make use of the unique, isolated economy of Rothaven. This means that they take common items from the outside world, which are rare in Rothaven, and trade them for items common in Rothaven, and rare in the outside world. Below an example of some commonly traded items:
Bought in outside world, sold in Rothaven:
- Flour
- Metal items (like weapons, nails,pans,...)
- Herbs and medicine
- ...
- Pelt of a Drath
- Plants and flowers exclusive to Roth
- Sirrium nugget
- ...
Most gamblers start with a certain goal, a certain amount of wealth in mind. Weird that there are almost no retired gamblers... or not?
Gambler codex
- Always travel in group Drath 's are one of the dangerous creatures in Roth, and they mostly do not attack groups.
- Always stay on the path The swamp is dark and unmapped, one could get stuck when leaving the path. Bunyip 's lurk in bigger bodies of water, which the path mostly stays clear from.
- Always travel during the clearing The chance to fall prey to predators or rothead increases tenfold when traveling through the fog.
- Always fight, unless it's a lycan Ghouls, draths, wolves, ... Fighting and remaining in group always will be the best chance of survival at the end. However, when a Lycan attacks, run for your life and don't look back.
