Tera

At the dawn of time, a big explosion resulted in the birth of the current universe. In the center of the chaos the Celestials formed, able to control matter and channel energy. They started to explore, and found that no one but them had these special abilities called magic. They agreed to keep traversing this newborn universe, and bring magic as a gift to those they came across. One of them went by the name "Aethos''.

For a time impossible to comprehend, Aethos wandered through the galaxy and seeded magic on planets containing life. One of these planets was planet Vesa; home of the Vesaja, an intelligent race who proved to be very capable of magic. Their power quickly outgrew the small planet, and they wished to join the celestial on his cosmic journey.

Meanwhile Aethos had discovered another planet with a lot of potential: Tera. This planet, more specifically the continent of Suthria, was home to 3 different intelligent races: the Ertman, Human and Ehmen. These three races lived in the shadow of titans, giant ancient beasts who ruled the planet without contest. To aid them in taking control of their planet, Aethos offered them the gift of magic.

The Ertman, stubborn and scared of things they don't know, refused this gift. They found safety in their unbreachable strongholds deep inside the mountains.

The Ehmen also refused the gift of magic. They lived their lives in perfect harmony with nature, hidden from harm in the gigantic forests of Tera.

The Humans however, accepted. Their constant drive for expansion often led to conflict with the titans, and they believed magic could be the key to claim their rightfull place in the world.

And so magic became part of this world, but it proved not to be the weapon they had hoped for. The integration happened slowly, and thousand years later mankind was only scratching it's surface. Disaster struck when two elder dragons, Sherak and Ashini, fought do the death and destroyed the Suthrian continent in their wake, forcing the intelligent races to flee their birthplace. Civilisation got knocked back several centuries, and all progress on the secrets of magic was lost.

When Aethos visited Tera several thousand years after his initial visit, he found that humanity was on the brink of extinction. He meditated for years, and during a dream accidently created the fauns&flori after his vision of a perfect Tera. Unwanting of directly interfering with the balance of power, he thought of another solution.

He offered the Vesaja two tasks to prove their worth, and upon succes would open up the galaxy to them. Eight individuals were chosen, each with their own qualities, to come to the aid of mankind. The first task was driving away the titans and create a safe space for mankind to evolve. As the celestial wanted his pupils to prove that they were more than just magic, he forbade the use of magic for this task. Their second task was to pass all their knowledge, including the secrets of magic, on to humanity. Also here, the use of magic for any other reason than education, was strictly forbidden.

The Vesajan party accepted and were sent to planet Tera, marking the year 0 and the start of the age of gods. In an event called "The Salvation", the Vesaja and mankind worked together to defeat the titans. Several decades later the continents Theria, Firigon, Suthria and the Kaan-islands, were free of the titans that roamed it. The collection of these continents, including the sea that filled the space inbetween, was now appropriately named the "world of men".

In the progress the eight Vesaja gathered a gigantic following, and were now worshipped like gods.

Mankind blossomed and underwent a rapid evoltion under Vesajan leadership. These alien god-lords however, turned out not to be immune to their new-found fame, and slowly fell victim to greed, envy and the lust for power. They used their following to fight among themselves, bringing an all-out war to the world of men. The God-wars lasted for nearly 200 years, and the native species of Tera payed the price in blood.

When Aethos found out about this, he banned all the Vesaja from Tera, never to return. Overcome with grief, the celestial decided that there should no longer be a divine power on the planet, and also left, never to be seen again. This moment during the year 551 A.V.,marks the beginning of the current age: The age of men.

Today we are in the year 1124 A.V.. The planet has mostly restored from the big war, but the division the Vesaja had sown still causes conflict every day. Relics of the past are scattered over the land, secret cults plot in the dark, the fauns&flori are in danger of going extinct and there are signs that the titans could return and destroy the world they have built.
