Fekete To' City

FeketeTó (Feh keh teh too)   Fekete To', a sprawling subterranean metropolis, lies hidden within an immense cavern built eons ago by the hands of the drow. This once-contiguous city is now fragmented into five distinct parishes, divided by the dark, cold waters of a vast lake that now claims its heart.   The Cavern and Its Atmosphere    Fekete Tó is illuminated by a mix of traditional lighting and magical sources. The city is lit by candles, torches, and lamps, with magical crystal lamps providing a distinctive glow in many areas. These lamps have a unique feature: they glow brighter or dimmer according to the sunlight above on the surface, giving a sense of the time of day. When the sun is at its peak, the lamps glow with a radius of 30 feet, as bright as an overcast day, and when it's nighttime on the surface, they dim to a radius of 5 feet, as faint as moonlight. These magical lamps typically shine in purple or green hues, creating an ethereal, otherworldly ambiance. In the more wild areas surrounding Fekete Tó, strange glowing mushrooms and lichen provide dim lighting, their soft radiance illuminating the caverns and the mushroom forests. The city also contains parts that are flooded by the lake, where drow lamps continue to glow, adding an eerie and haunting appearance to the waters of the lake.   Within the caverns around Fekete Tó, vast forests of mushrooms dominate the landscape, as there are no trees or plants that naturally grow here—everything thrives in the dim, magical light provided by the mushrooms and lamps.   The cavern housing Fekete To’ is a place of perpetual twilight. The ceiling, obscured in darkness, looms far above, with faint patches of bioluminescent lichen casting a ghostly glow on parts of the walls and ceiling. The atmosphere is damp and filled with the echoes of dripping water, distant creaks of boat hulls, and the occasional eerie sound from the lake's depths.   Mysterious, dim lights flicker far beneath the surface of the lake, a haunting reminder of the sunken city center and its secrets. Boats traverse the lake, their lanterns casting bobbing reflections on the water, linking the isolated parishes like veins in a vast, dark body.   The Parishes of Fekete To’ Each of the five parishes has its own distinct character and role within the city, connected tenuously by treacherous paths, narrow beaches, and the lake itself.   Crown Parish (Crwon Parish)   Perched on a high, rocky crag to the east, the Crown Parish is the seat of power and prestige. Water from outside flows under the Grand Gate, through this district, then cascades off a cliff in a dramatic waterfall, feeding the lake below. This is the domain of nobility, governance, and the wealthiest inhabitants. Access to other parishes is limited to a single perilous path down to the Foreign Parish or by magical gates.   Foreign Parish (Külföldi Parish)   Located south of the lake on its sandy shore, the Foreign Parish serves as the city’s hub for trade and outsiders. Its markets bustle with goods from the surface and...other places. A narrow, sandy beach connects it to the Lakeside Parish, while a steep path climbs to the Crown Parish.   Waterside Parish (A Víz Széle Parish)   This district sits on the southwestern shore, where fishermen and laborers live and work. It is the lifeblood of Fekete To’, supplying fish and other lakeborne resources to the other parishes. The people of this parish are pragmatic and harbor a mild distrust of the wealthier districts. Devout Parish (Jámbor Parish)   Isolated on a sloping beach to the northwest, the Devout Parish is home to Fekete To's most sacred sites. Its shrines and temples, dedicated to drow deities and water spirits, make it a place of pilgrimage and reverence. Its isolation has fostered a close-knit, insular community.   Scavenger Parish (Dögevő Parish)   To the northeast lies the Scavenger Parish, a shadowy district where survival takes precedence. Built on a rocky shoreline, its inhabitants scavenge remnants of the sunken city and eke out a living in harsh conditions. Known for its resourcefulness and its dealings in salvaged goods, it has an air of danger and mystery. The Lake and Its Secrets The lake is the city’s lifeline and its enigma. Stretching across the center of the cavern, it swallows the ruins of the ancient city, leaving hints of its former grandeur submerged beneath its dark waters. The lights that flicker far below suggest former life—or perhaps something more sinister.   The lake's waters flow in from the Grand Gate and exit through a massive western cave, creating a continuous current. It connects the parishes, with boat travel providing a vital link between these separated enclaves.   Life in Fekete To’ Fekete To' thrives in the shadows, its people adapted to the unique challenges of their subterranean world. The city is steeped in a blend of drow culture, gothic architecture, and an out-of-place desert theme, with towering spires, intricate stonework, and darkly beautiful designs dominating its skyline.   Though divided by geography and social class, the parishes rely on one another to survive in this harsh, isolated environment. Yet, tensions simmer beneath the surface, fueled by disparity, ancient rivalries, and the lake’s haunting presence.   Fekete To’ is a city of shadows, secrets, and survival—where beauty and danger intertwine, and the past lies buried both in its ruins and its murky depths.
