Usharay Divinity

I wasn't able to finish this article during Summer Camp, but here's a stub of what I'd wanted to write.   An organization rooted in controversial principles.

A quote would go here. Perhaps from an Usharayan official about another glorious day in the divinity.

Divine Right to Rule

  • The royal family was chosen by the gods to rule, leader is called a divinator
  • the right to rule is passed to the eldest child upon death of their parent, gender-ambivalent
  • divinators must be those who trace their bloodline to the first
  • they surround themselves with their Chosen, who can be anything from trusted friends, to advisors, to lovers
  • one is their First Chosen, who appears with the divinator at most functions, and is the second parent to the divinator's child
  • divinators typically only have one child - their ability to have a single child and raise them to be a healthy adult helps prove they have the divine right to rule and the gods' protection
  • there are rumors that a divinator will secretly have multiple children and raise them in secret. should the first child die, they will be secretly replaced with a backup child to hide news of the death from the public
  • Divine Right to Conquest

  • they use this tie to divinity to justify continued conquest
  • conquered lands are meant to worship the divinator alongside their patron god
  • between the destruction caused by battles, the cost of maintaining armies and repairing roads, and then this forced spirituality, the Divinity doesn't get much loyalty from conquered peoples
  • however, the divinity is a rich country due to the wealth of resources within their borders. this, and the fear of "what if they do have divine right actually", leads most civilians to accept whatever the divinity wants to do
  • Some other quote would go here, probably from a citizen annoyed about propping up an altar to the divinator
