Ajarda
Ajarda is a territory in the west of Palabran. It was conquered over 200 years ago, but its people retain a strong sense of culture and identity, viewing themselves as separate from Palabran at-large. As such, law in Ajarda is enforced directly by the Stratavads.

Religion
Fortune-worship is mandated in Ajarda. Almost all of its people publicly worship the Fortunes out of fear for their lives. However, beneath the surface, many people still worship the old gods of Ajarda—spirits of great power who are still capable of performing great deeds. One of the most powerful of these is the Fire Watcher—an ancient and powerful dragon who watches over what is now the Ajardu Imperial Park.Spirits
A number of spirits call Ajarda home. Their existence is tolerated, though worship of spirits is not. Aside from the sorts of spirits you'd find in Palabran proper—mayura and piskans and ogres—many korba, or cat-spirits, also call Ajarda home. These wily tricksters are often seen as symbols of the freedom and endurance of the Ajardu people—and are symbolic of their struggles against imperial rule.Territories
Natural Geography
Ajarda has a varied climate, with areas of chaparral forest and coastal scrubland along the southern coast, broken up by thick, old-growth coniferous forests as you journey further north. Ajarda is separated from the rest of Palabran by the Dismani Range, which connects to the Mandraganian Peaks to the south. Ajarda is home to Ajardu Imperial Park, a nature preserve where hunting, foraging, and settlement are forbidden. Ajardu Imperial Park was established by Empress Isidra IV after negotiations with the Fire Watcher, who insisted that its ancestral homeland be protected.Human Geography

Cuisine
Ajardu cuisine is distinct and different from Palabrani cuisine, though the Palabrani influence is certainly felt. Typical Ajardu dishes include combinations of rice with lamb, chicken, beef, nuts, and vegetables—often seasoned with cinnamon, turmeric, or parsley. Fruits like pomegranates, prunes, apricots, and raisins are also commonly used in Ajardu cuisine—even in savory dishes.
