In this world of gods and men, there is no past, no future. There is only the tapestry woven by the Fortunes upon the red threads of fate. War and peace, life and death—truly, there is nothing new under the sun.
Welcome to Southreach! Once continent among many, Southreach is my campaign setting for the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game. Set in a world where humans live alongside gods and spirits, where empires struggle to stay together amidst shifting political allegiances, and where fate guides the lives of millions—Southreach is a setting influenced in part by Asian mythology, history, and culture.
Now—when I say that, there may be a certain image that pops up in your head. You may be reminded of the dozens of terrible pulp adventures with dubious titles like: "oriental adventures." When these books say that they are "Asian-influenced," what they usually mean is that they were influenced by Chinese or Japanese culture—or, more accurately, a version of Chinese or Japanese culture that with old white guys in the 80's.
I got tired of that pretty quick. I thought to myself—why can't there be an Asian-influenced setting for D&D that's like—good? And written by Asian people?
Well, Southreach is my attempt at answering that question.
