The Ajardu Hinterlands

The Ajardu Hinterlands are a region to the west of the Dismani Range. They comprise the territories formerly controlled by the Ajardu queendom. They are made up primarily of coastal scrubland, broken up by thick, old-growth coniferous forests as you journey further north.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

The Hinterlands have one of the most diverse floral pallets in all of Palabran. A host of massive conifers—including the famous Ajardu redwoods and giant sequoias—dominate much of the northern Hinterlands. Further south, the climate becomes hotter. A variety of cypresses, smaller pines, palms, and shrub grasses can be found there. Alchemists and apothecaries note the presence of beard lichen, yarrow, and mugwort—which have healing properties—and cottonmouth—which is poisonous.

Fauna

A number of species call the Ajardu Hinterlands home. Major predators include coyotes, cheetahs, Ajardu lions, and Ajardu wild dragons—who are undoubtedly the apex predators in the region. A number of ungulates also call the Hinterlands home⁠—including the massive Ajardu rhinocerous, the Ajardu fallow deer, and the Ajardu wild ass.

Other animals that call the Ajardu Hinterlands home include birds like buzzards, hawks, kestrels, doves, partridges, and quails; small mammals like hedgehogs, Ajardu rabbits, mongooses, and raccoons; and reptiles like the vipers, cobras, and turtles.
