Adorcist

You do not own your magic. It owns you. Bound to an unruly Source, a cursed relic, an ancestral burden, a god’s forgotten favor, or the shattered echo of a living spell. You have awakened not to power, but to possession. Unlike natural Unbound born with natural gifts, you are a taker, a channeler of volatile arcana that was never meant to be wielded. The boundary between you and your Source is thin, sometimes nonexistent. Each spell you cast is a danger. Each surge of power is a reminder that your strength is not truly yours.

But still, you persist. You are now Unbound, one of the rare few who wield Aṣé even if its tainted. Rather than reject it, you embraced the trial, learning to contain the storm, harness the hunger, twist the curse until it serves you. Through will, ritual, and reckless mastery, you shape the Source as it reshapes you. Every level gained is another layer of control, or corruption. The world may call your power unnatural, unstable, even dangerous. But they will never call you weak. Not while your eyes glow with the power of the gods.

Core Features

(1st Level)

Adorcism (Bound Source)

At 1st level, choose your Source, the origin of your magic. This determines your surge table, subclass features, and thematic spells.

Roll to Cast

When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, make a casting check:

  • d20 + proficiency bonus + Constitution modifier
  • DC = 10 + spell level

On success, the spell is cast.
On failure, the spell fails and triggers your Source Surge.

Spellcasting

Spells Known

  • 2 + CONmod at 1st level
  • +1 per level gained, as shown in the progression table

Cantrips Known

  • 2 at 1st
  • +1 at 4th, 10th, and 14th

Spell Selection

  • Choose from the Universal Adorcist Spell List
  • Gain additional spells from your Adorcism (do not count against known spells)

Cantrip Rules

  • No casting check required
  • Do not trigger Source Surges
  • Automatically scale if Cantrip allows upcasting, as if cast at your maximum accessible spell level

Spell Adaptation

Each time you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of your known spells with another spell from the Adorcist core spell list. Additionally, you can replace one cantrip you know with a different cantrip from the same list. This represents the shifting bond between you and your Source, as your magic subtly reshapes itself with your growth.

(2nd Level)

Surge Upcasting

If your casting check succeeds, on a spell with upcasting, for each point you exceed the DC, the spell is treated as cast at +1 level, up to your maximum accessible spell level.

(3rd Level)

Source Well

You have Source Well Dice equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest. Your 1st die will be a d6. You may:

  • Surge Boost: Add a Source Well Die to a casting check before rolling.
  • Source Twist: After a failed cast, roll your Surge Table twice, choose one.
  • Controlled Surge (8th+): After a successful cast, spend dice (1 per +1 level) to further upcast, up to your max spell level. Limit = CON mod (doubled at 14th).

(4th Level)

Ability Score Improvement

You gain +1 to an Ability Modifier or choose a feat of your choice for which you qualify.

(5th Level)

Source Adorcism (Tier 2)

Your bond to your source increases affecting your appearance and access to it's power.

Instinctive Casting

On a natural 20 casting check, regain that spell’s energy or recast immediately without a casting check.

(6th Level)

Source Well Improvement

Your Source Well dice changes to d8

(7th Level)

Overflow Magic

Once per long rest, you may choose to fail a casting check and cast the spell for free. This triggers a Source Surge.

(8th Level)

Controlled Surge

Spend Source Well Dice after a successful cast to increase spell level (+1 level per die spent), up to your max spell level.

  • 8th level: max dice = CON mod

Ability Score Improvement

You gain +1 to an Ability Modifier or choose a feat of your choice for which you qualify.

(9th Level)

Dual Flow

Once per long rest, cast two spells on the same turn. Both casting checks are at disadvantage.

(10th Level)

Source Adorcism (Tier 3)

Your bond to your source increases affecting your appearance and access to it's power

(11th Level)

Source Well Improvement

Your Source Well dice changes to d8

(12th Level)

Ability Score Improvement

You gain +1 to an Ability Modifier or choose a feat of your choice for which you qualify.

(13th Level)

Source Mastery

Once per long rest, you may choose to automatically succeed on a casting check. When you do, roll twice on your Source Surge table and suffer both results.

(14th Level)

Controlled Surge Improvement

Max dice = double CON mod

(15th Level)

Final Adorcism (Tier 4)

Your bond to your source increases affecting your appearance and access to it's power

Embodiment of the Source

You become one with your Source. Its essence and yours are indistinguishable, and your body, mind, and magic reflect the boundless power of your bond.

  • For 1 minute all casts auto-succeed
  • All spells cause harmless minor surges
  • You may cast a cantrip as a bonus action each turn
  • When this ends, you gain 2 levels of exhaustion
